Is it still worth it to farm Lux weapons this close to SB?

[Question]

Is all the effort required to take the original anima weapons and turn them into lux worth it? am i better spending my time farming Alexander Savage for its weapon. Just curious since ive never gotten this far in the game.

If you can actually clear A12S, yeah, just go for that. It's not something most players have as a realistic option.

Unless your Creator weapon has bad stats, but your Shire weapon has good stats, then you could just get the upgrade material from doing all 3 of the 24 mans now.

I thought I was cynical.

There are two reasons to go for it, especially if you think you can get it done with the month and change left til expac. You want the glamour or you want the possible shortcut on the first step of the next relic weapon. It's not a bad thing to go for the shortcut reason. Not much to do now anyway.

To add to this, new relic weapons are not usually introduced alongside xpacs, so having this one will probably be useful for a good chunk of the leveling from 60-70. You won't have to worry about the next relic until August or so, probably. Of course, other gear will be better at lv 70, but I imagine you can get some good use out of the Lux until then.

For whatever it's worth I think my maxed ARR relic was good till about 56/57 in HW. It was kind of nice not stressing about upgrading my weapon for so long but I also wouldn't justify a relic grind for that convenience.

I'm working on it now. But I'm a glutton for that kind of punishment.

I waited until after HW release and level 60 to go back and finish my relic might do that this time.

Not a bad idea, since 4.0 will nerf it again. Though you might as well do what you can for the next month. I'm just about done with the token grind(another day or two) and then I just need 3 more aether oils for next step.

Wait, the Zodiac's will be nerfed again?

Obviously nothing is confirmed but I'm 90% certain the realm reborn relics were nerfed with 3.0 so I see no reason 4.0 wouldn't do it for HW relics.

I'm still working on it, I'm half way through the umbrite stage. I'll stop after the NA data center relocation or next month, because I still need to get MNK gear for SAM and get MCH ilvl up.

lux weapons look beautiful so they're worth for glamour at the very least. doesnt take very long to get now too

Im currently in the process of leveling my first character. If I start the quest line but dont finish it before stormblood comes out will I still be able to complete it?

The Relic/Anima quests are permanent, so if you want the weapon for its appearance, you can always finish them even when the weapon itself isn't useful anymore (i.e. when you hit 70 in Stormblood, it's very likely the Anima won't have any practical value except for the trade-in for skipping new legendary weapon quest's first step).

Finishing an Anima weapon on a casual basis for the first time would take roughly as long as we've got until the expansion hits if you plan your steps out in advance, so in theory you can still pull it off while the weapon it actually useful.

Oh yeah, you'll still be able to work on it, no worries. But in all honesty, even if you were to put say an hour in every day towards your Anima, you could probably very well finish prior to SB. About 70% of the steps to completing one have been nerfed to the point having minimal effort.

That being said, Anima weapons will most likely receive additional nerds upon SB release, so even if you weren't able to finish it by then, you'll DEFINITELY finish afterwards.

Well, some do...WAR's is still just an iron labrys with a bit of fire....

General consensus is to get them if you're really into the glamour. There's nothing you really need them for ilvl wise at this point. I'm sure you'll have a slight edge with expansion content at least till 65ish maybe but then you'll need to upgrade. So it's a question of if the time investment is worth it. It'll be WAY faster to clear A12s even if you have no experience at this point.

You can usually use the last endgame set (ie. IW or Shire) until basically the end. Makes things a bit harder now and then, but it is perfectly viable.

Oh definitely. But the time-sink of completing a lux weapon is a mountain compared to getting the A12s weapon. That's why I suggest at this point if someone really wanted something above the shire 270 to just run A12s and/or the new diadem.

Do you want it mainly as a glamour piece, or are you asking if the stats are worth it?

Doing a relic for the stats is never worthwhile, whether you're close to an upcoming expansion or raid tier or whatever. At every step of the way, the amount of time you spend slaving away at grinding out each step will be way out of proportion to the best stats you can get on it, and most of the time, there are weapons with stats that are just flat out better, that require much less time and grind.

However, if you want the weapon mainly as a glamour piece, then now is actually a good time to be doing one. There's still a good month and a half before Stormblood hits where you won't really have anything particularly important to do, so putting the time in isn't taking time away from anything else you could be doing, and most (all?) of the steps have been significantly nerfed from their original forms, so the amount of actual time that you will have to spend doing it is the smallest that it's ever been (and won't get faster until after SB launches, at which point you'll have more important things to do).
