Kitchens are busy, loud and perilous.

Communication is paramount. "Behind you" ,"hot corner", "sharp left" etc are common verbiage so one doesn't spin around into a forehead full of hot bacon grease.

"Heard" is the correct response to any verbal communication, bit of instruction, or piece of information acknowledging receipt of information.

For instance... Chef- "I need table 2 the fuck out of my shop, there's a baby growing a beard"

Line cooks- "Heard! 2 has wings"

Edit- thinking about it a little more, it's a little more than an acknowledgement, it's a more a confirmation of understanding. I'll occasionally here, instead of "heard" a response of "callback in 3 please"

Essentially meaning "my head is full of the next 9 steps and I can't fit yours as the tenth because I'm terribly busy, please remind me in 3 minutes"

Prepared a leafy green in a food processor tonight.

Talk about putting the SPIN in SPINach!

2
williamleeOP•

Hah! A lil curious, though. What are ya roboing spinach for?

1
UnhappyJohnCandy•

We need it finely processed for pizza. It's a bitch to clean, but it goes on... well, like two pizzas, so is it worth it? Not from a dishwasher's standpoint. But the owner charges $2 a topping so for now it stays.

2
williamleeOP•

Heard. I haven't worked pizza in 12 years. I'll take note if I do it again.

1
farang•

A smell.

1
