Sunnyside

Stepping off the crosstown
bus in humid,
too-wet-for-June heat,
I thought of when I first
came to Queens and
put a bridge
between us.

(And lines of taxicabs
and an entire polluted river
and buildings filled with
New Yorkers of
every color.
And cemeteries and parks
both green on maps.
And the above ground
7 train that rumbles
through my nights.)
