Excuse me... but your posting this will directly contradict all of the whining about linear Nielsen ratings, and the internet simply cannot allow these facts to disturb said whining, you monster. :D
Why, it's almost as if they have already decided on a narrative that this a terrible failure and only want to reinforce it!
What a preposterous idea! Why, the Nielsen rating system is a modern marvel that monitors the breadth and width of the viewing habits of literally (5) thousands of Americans across a staggering range of demographics! To even suggest that, when faced with the ever-growing dominance of On Demand services that they would attempt to impugn any program to assert their infallibility is the very definition of lunacy!
Neilsens was for pricing the COMMERCIALS for network tv!!!!!!!
EXACTLY! I mean, they were designed to have no bearing on the perceived popularity or profitability of a show AT ALL!
Drives me nuts when people talk about that. Clearly showtime is trying something different here, not just in terms of storytelling but in terms of what makes a show a success. If they are making a killing off streaming subscriptions and Blu ray sales then why worry about something that is becoming more and more antiquated like Nielsen ratings?
Is it getting GoT level ratings? Of course not. But with the invention of streaming services and DVRs it's time to start redefining what makes a show successful.
Which is why Showtime has expressed zero concern about ratings. They know how this show is being viewed and it's revolutionized their streaming service.
Game of Thrones didn't have Game of Thrones ratings over it's first and second seasons, but it grew in to a massive behemoth. Not saying Tp will do the same, but it remains a solid property that will surely see an increase in views over the next 3-6 months. If Lynch/Frost have it in them, I believe Showtime is game for a continuation.
Mind you, it's also the fact no one watches Showtime except for Ray Donovan so it's not like they have much to throw at the wall but Twin Peaks.
I know a lot of people who love Shameless.
I'm not one of them. But a lot do.
It has been on for an awful long time. Homeland for a while was the biggest hit Showtime maybe ever had. People still watch it by the droves.
Shameless is their top show.
Yeah and Ray Donovan is coming to a close...
The ads I've been seeing said that the new season just started though.
...as if anybody watches television anymore....
You have no idea what you are talking about. Neilsens?!!!!)? It's about paid subscriptions.
Bro, I was kidding...
Gah, you beat me to the punch, deleted my thread which cropped up a couple minutes after yours. Incredibly good news for any Twin Peaks fan, though.
Yes, Moonves is a bit of a prick. Having him bragging about this is VERY GOOD NEWS. I bet Sabrina Sutherland is smirking today, this is exactly what you want on your side going into possible negotiations for more.
Yes, this is huge for Twin Peaks. Good chance CBS/Showtime is already asking Lynch about doing another run.
Depending on the ending of this season, I might be more interested in a whole new show from them.
I'm up for anything they want to do of course, but you could see why CBS/Showtime would prefer a brand with a hook that they can keep building on. Seeing as Lynch/Frost have shown they can use Twin Peaks as a frame to tell whatever kind of story they want around the globe, it leaves a helluva lot of leeway.
I have two things to say about this. These are the two things: First, I want every man, woman and child to share in the joy of Twin Peaks. I want it to be the most popular show ever. More than the last Seinfeld more than Princess "Candle in the Wind" Di's wedding.
Second, I hope those responsible for making this season possible make so much money they have to hire a new money machine to count it all.
These are the two things I wished to convey. ~thank you for your time and consideration.
Ha! Take that commenters that were making unsubstantiated claims that the show was doing poorly!
Freakin' capitalists. 🌽♨🔥
I think I read the ratings were pretty bad for the cable channel airings. This really puts into perspective how much of an effect Netflix can have and how fast viewing preferences are shifting
Bad is relative as even the "bad" ratings were easily equivalent to Showtime's top shows. It's just no one was watching Showtime period. It was also stated the on-demand was about 5 times the size of the people who watched it on cable.
I guess starz is number 2 after all. Showtime has had pretty bad ratings compared to most major oroginal shows.
On the other hand, Showtime got their biggest subscription boost ever thanks to the show.
I'm holding out hope for On The Air- The Return.
The only reason I subscribed to CraveTV (Canada) was because of the new Twin Peaks.
So I'm a real world example of increased earnings due to our little show.
Great find. Sounds promising.
Love this!
I'm really excited to hear this. I'd love a season 4
Fire Stock with Me
"CBS Chief Executive Leslie Moonves said in the announcement that the new "Twin Peaks" show "boosted OTT subscriptions dramatically" for the Showtime streaming service"
Season 4. Season 4. Season 4. Season 4. If the CEO is gloating, I don't think it's quite the charity venture some of you guys think it is.
at the end of the day there will only be a season 4 if David Lynch and Mark Frost want to do it.
If they are treating this as the end, then it's the end. Regardless of if it's making money or not.
Bright side is Lynch and Kyle have both commented they're open to more Twin Peaks, I think Lynch got more open to another season after this one wrapped up since in Lynch's own words, this season of Twin Peaks was the most fun he's ever had working on something. Lynch has said depending on how this season does, they could go back to Twin Peaks, and Kyle said something similar.
Well, every director loves a success and Twin Peaks is their special project.
Can you provide links where they mention this? I don't think you're lying, I just can't find anything with a google search.
It feels like a retrospective of all his past works. With Part 8, I believe Lynch sees Twin Peaks as his playground.
They do according to Sutherland.
We'll see how things stand after the finale.
Source ? I'm oddly expecting some major Peaks news to drop the Monday morning after the finale.
people asking her at the Fest when she screened part 12 at the roadhouse. She said they'll be discussing it after the finale with the network and the production side was up for it.
accolades at the emmys could help. But the emmys are very predictable. Transparent wins all the comedy stuff and Game of thrones everything else because it ended and people made a lot of money.
Sadly the timing isn't right, it's eligible for 2018 Emmys, I'm sure they'll pull the trigger on a deal/no deal much earlier than that.
You would think - but Lynch is known for really long breaks in between projects. If the show is making money he could start writing like...now :)
I think this is the kind of show that gets overlooked by the Emmys apart from maybe an acting or minor category nomination.
And I hope to god that if they don't want to do it, they certainly won't pass it on to someone else (I'm assuming it's still entirely their property).
I don't NEED it, but I do WANT it.
