chose a bad line

Slight understatement. How do you even get out of that without a tow?

I was using straps with the small ratchets. I carry them with me for stuff like this. Got about an hour into that and a couple Cale along with a little 4x4 and a winch. They killed my self save.

I actually have video of that...I should post it.

Like these. https://www.google.com/search?q=straps+with+ratchet+home.depot+orange&client=safari&hl=en-us&prmd=sinv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiPgIWYg6bXAhUp4oMKHQQzDFkQ_AUIEygC&biw=414&bih=622#imgrc=l20dgqHk47vJsM:

Well...hmmm apparently I’m not allowed to post (video?) here.

It's the second time I hear about getting a bike out with ratchets on here and I still have a hard time imagining it for some reason.

You use the ratchets like a pulley system? I didn't know that would work

I would love to see that video! That for sure was not an easy task, removing the bike from there!

You got seriously lucky not to have had water damage but very smart to have remembered to check. Lots of people tend to forget about that with the mess of the moment. Very nice learning tip to keep in mind.

My thesis at the academy was on blasting chickens out of a crater. Same concept.

Oregon trail taught me that you ALWAYS ford the river.

Yup.

Strange, I don’t see a Starbucks anywhere. In all seriousness, that’s incredible you kept it upright. Congrats on getting out and putting that bike to use!

I’m not sure I’m getting your joke, but I do always keep an eye out for a SB on my trips.

Thanks. It was a lot of fun.

It’s a running joke that most of the GS/ADV bikes, perhaps the greatest ADV bikes of all time, 90% of them are used by suburban dads to go to Starbucks and run errands that any normal bike that doesn’t have the ADV markup would be perfectly suited for. I absolutely love that F800 though and I’m jealous. I go through spurts of nearly talking myself into buying one but then I remember I’m not adventures and would be riding it to Starbucks. I rode one about a year ago and had a blast.

Chuckle. I have a 650gs (single) that’s been sitting in my garage for two years now. I loved riding it, but the seats too low. It was between the F800 and this one last time. Triumph obviously won. That engine!

Woah, I your windshield makes it look like the GS headlight with the notch, I feel dumb making the mistake. Now my joke is dead, this isn’t the F800! Face palm! How do you like the tiger? I mostly purchase kinda weird bikes and I’m kinda wanting something a little more modern. So I’ve been looking at the Tiger XR, and the Africa Twin as well as a variety of other bikes. I don’t really know what I’m even wanting so... I just sold my CR250R today, so I’m planning on picking up another weird bike to add to the stable and like I said something more modern.

But you're still upright. So you have that going for you.

3
OneFishTwoFish42OP•

Yes! How much would it suck to have it laying in the water?

Had to take all the plastic off to get the tank off to see if any water had gotten sucked into the engine. Luckily bone dry, but that added hours. So I just pitched a tent nearby and spent the night.

Made for a really fun adventure.

do you think this check was necessary? I did this 2 months ago and just checked my airbox, removed the filter and looked in the intake. Was I negligent? (2010 wr250r)

1
OneFishTwoFish42OP•

That’s pretty much what I did. The tank has to be taken off to get to the air box. If that hadn’t been dry then I would have taken the plugs out and probably try to take off the muffler to drain it.

Do you have a raft in there?

1
OneFishTwoFish42OP•

Might as well. I seem to carry everything else

Yup. Didn’t blow any fuses.

I don’t think I quite understand. The exhaust exit is higher up than the fuses.

I guess I was being ignorant and irrelevant. If you were a little deeper (submerged exhaust), an electric motor would still be running. Wouldn't matter much as if you were that submerged, the bike would be too light for tires to gain traction, and light enough to lift out. Few cases where electric would be beneficial in similar situations.
