Turning assault into attempted murder.

139
user079•

Yeah but it’s in the uk so it won’t be a charge of attempted murder.

32
How2999•

It won't be a charge of attempted murder because it's not attempted murder. I'm not always happy with sentencing in the UK, but I'm equally not happy with people who read the daily mail, so stop it.

SpaceCowBot•

What does daily mail have to do with this? He ran the dude over, on purpose, if that's not trying to kill someone I don't know what is....

27
Grommmit•

He didn’t run him over, and it was at 5mph. If he was attempting to end his life as you state, he would also have gone over him.

What does daily mail have to do with this?

If you don't know then you're part of the problem.

He ran the dude over,

No he didn't, he hit him with his vehicle.

if that's not trying to kill someone

So if I run over your foot, intentionally, that's attempted murder? Yes hitting someone with a van is very dangerous, but that doesn't mean in doing so you are displaying an intention to kill. The same way a brawl is very dangerous, but rarely is there an intention to kill, even though death is a very real possibility.

I don't know what is....

I can believe that.

MrMcSlopper•

I’m not usually a fan of passing on gossip, but I do know someone, who knows someone, who knows them and the word is the driver is being charged with attempted murder. Then again, this may be all nonsense.

1†
How2999•

It's possible, there could be more to the incident than what is shown in the video.

The only news that seems to have picked it up is Daily Mail and Mirror, both reporting identical, that the incident happened on the 2nd, accused in court on the 6th, no mention of attempted murder.

That seems to be an distinct lack of coverage for an attempted murder case. You would expect at least the local news to pick it up.

user079•

I don’t read the daily mail. I also wasn’t saying this case was necessarily attempted murder. I was making satire of the UK “justice” system. So how about you stop it?

-1
How2999•

So how about you stop it?

Only if you promise to stop your dreadful excuse for satire.

1
johnnyweareworried•

That was satire? The moment you need to explain the 'joke' is the moment you realise it died on its arse

1
random12356622•

The daily mail I agree is very bad, but sometimes they are the only source of news on some subjects:

I couldn't find the article, but the UK seems to take PC multiculturalism to an extreme level of not reporting crimes against children.

Not sure what the argument was about, but it is nice to see that the one that threw the first punch ended up on the ground...now the part about hitting him with the car...that's a bit too far.

What ever happened to a gentlemanly round of fisticuffs?

38
The_Powers•

Pretty sure the lone guy who started it pulled a knife out of his trousers before he got booped over.

6
JetSetWillyOP•

I appreciated his jump into the air just before the van impacted, ensuring he bounces off the bonnet instead of being crushed under the bumper. That kind of quick thinking is what separates the Darwinian wheat from the chaff.

A shame that the rest of his decisions don't appear to live up to this high standard.

51
rebukejoy•

It probably wasn’t his first time being ran over

24
govoval•

If that's the case, I hope the van wasn't damaged.

3
Alyrium•

Did you do anything with this footage? Or was it a typical ned occurrence in your area?

13
JetSetWillyOP•

I should have made clear, the footage is not mine, I reposted. It occurred in Maryhill in Glasgow (a poorer part of town).

According to commenters elsewhere, the police have arrested two men and are taking the matter seriously. Also, although they were driving a Housing Association van, they are not employees of the GHA.

Alyrium•

Oh it's no problem, thanks for the info.

8
Rocketmn333•

A good follow up is always appreciated

4
EnduredDreams•

Why are they driving a GHA van if they aren't employees of GHA ?!? I smell bullshit.

UPDATE - https://www.reddit.com/r/glasgow/comments/7lc2fy/glasgow_housing_associationfor_better_lives/drmfx0t GHA are twisting things - if these "sub-contractors" wear GHA uniforms and drive GHA vans, they are (mis)representing GHA to the public.

1
9100•

You should have crossposted it so the source is retained.

-4†
JetSetWillyOP•

I directly posted the link at first, but then deleted it when I realised that v.redd.it doesn’t embed the video here on r/roadcam, and nor does it allow direct linking to the video. When I browse r/roadcam I appreciate embedded videos instead of “click through and then click video”.

10
9100•

Sounds like that's an r/roadcam issue then.

Donaldbeag•

Wow.

At fisrt i thought that jakey was trying to take the guys head off = fuck him.

then the other dude got in the van.. jail time for that moron

Who starts a fight right after your opponents friend shows up, guaranteeing a two on one? The dude was trying to leave, just walk away.

4
dannydaleI *just* fucking said don't hug me with your goddamn car!•

This needs to be prosecuted as if the driver had used a gun or knife. I don't imagine Scotland has the weapon-dependent sentencing disparity problem to the degree the USA has, however.

3
The_Powers•

No it shouldn't, because he used a van. Not a gun or a knife. No need for false equivalencies here.

-7
m-tee•

isnt van a deadly weapon?

6
EpicFishFingers•

If you hit someone at 5mph and stop immediately after, then it's a deadly weapon in the same way a rugby tackle is.

So no.

-2
kylemaoin•

That's like saying a gun isn't a deadly weapon because you shot someone in the shoulder.

3

it's attempted murder, fuccboi

4
The_Powers•

A) No it isn't.

B) Not sure why you're being insulting, if anything it smacks of over-compensation that speaks to a general insecurity either in your conviction or yourself; in other words, don't blame me because you've got a micro penis.

1
TankSpooners•

From GHA’s Twitter “This incident did not involve any employees of GHA and the van was not in GHA service at the time. A man has been charged in connection with the incident and appeared in court on December 6.”

2
Heknarf•

Hmmm, so they just give their vans to whoever do they? Lol, as if..

3
TankSpooners•

I know right, seems a typical sweep it under the rug with vague nonsense approach. Probably fired those involved already and are just bullshitting their way out of having to talk about it.

2
EpicFishFingers•

Yeah but can you blame them? Imagine if you manage a business and you get a call to say some twat driving your vans decided to hit someone using the actual van

I'd just say "I'll look into it" and stop replying, no need to answer them anyway and you'll only potentially cause more bad PR or even incriminate yourself

3
TankSpooners•

Oh god no I don’t blame them, not their fault these nob rashers decided to act the way they did.

The victim jumping up as the van hit him, quick thinking while your head throbs from being punched. Good choice.

Name one reason why anyone would want to move there

-6

To a council estate in Glasgow? Probably none, the same reason no one would want to move to a trailer park in Alabama. There's 240,000km^^2 more to the UK than seen in this video, though.

Free higher education? It really depends where you stay and whether things attract you compared to other places

4
ManInABlueShirt•

It’s free in Scotland where this was filmed, but in the rest of the UK, higher education costs are comparable to in state tuition at a US public university
