What archetypes do you hope will be expanded upon in the next expac?

Discussion

I absolutely love Shaman and I feel like there is a lot of potential in the next expac for spellstone decks. I really hope they add something to allow you to get your spellstones more consistently. I hope they add support for the elemental archetype as well, something to make it less "play on curve" and give it more flexibilty.

What kind of archetypes would you like to see expanded upon?

Freeze shaman. I got Moorabi so I’m expecting something for that archetype.

OnionButter•

Moorabi will probably not make the cut even if Freeze Shaman becomes a thing. I packed him too.

SacredReich•

Its probably a useless question, but would Team 5 make a card so shit and not have some busted synergistic effect ready down the line?

Rambro332•

They’re in an awkward position with these kinds of archetypes.

-They print bad/situational/memey/balanced cards for the archetypes: “LOL Blizz stop trying to make X happen, it’s not gonna happen.”

-They print good/playable cards for the archetypes: “WTF Blizz trying to force X down our throats.”

-They don’t print any more cards for the archetypes: “Why did Blizz forget about X?”

asyrin25•

Some cards are for fun not Legend.

I actually crafted Moorabi for my freeze shaman. He's a lot of fun :)

Dialgak77•

Some cards are for fun not Legend.

Every shamman legendary.

3
OnionButter•

Yeah I messed with him a bit since I did get him in a pack. It's interesting and I feel like when I did win a game my opponent was either confused af, laughing their ass off, or salty. Personally it only held my interest for a dozen or so games, but not saying I'll never break him out again.

1
OnionButter•

They would do this.

As u/asyrn24 points out some cards are for fun or maybe they don't quite know how strong it will be for sure until it hits.

And, sure, it's possible there will be something with enough synergy that Moorabi sees play. His health total + mana cost makes it tough IMO.

1
Captain_Clam•

...we can always hope for a Moorabi rework, right? Like, minions obtained through Moorabi have a discount, or something.

1
OnionButter•

True. Hopefully it will be included in their next round of buffs.

1
MOOIMASHARK•

I'd expect two or three times more support in the next expasiob for freeze shaman than it got in KaC.

1
markedbythevoid•

Packed him twice & dusted him twice. I might regret it at some point in the future, but for now, no fucks given.

1
Electroverted•

Looking over Moorabi, I think he has potential for a OTK deck of some sort, but it will likely be a low winrate, like Exodia or Mill.

1
snowpuppii•

Actually I see him more in a taunt wall or some kind of value style type of deck. Then using Moorabi like Lyra.

1
Electroverted•

That sounds interesting. Might be hard to actually play the minions you steal, which is why he's problematic.

1
Deathbrush•

Literally fucking anything interesting for paladin. I personally adore dude paladin, but with the warlock clusterfuck we’re going to have post rotation I think any hopes of that becoming viable are a pipe dream.

But seriously just any midrange or control paladin being viable again would make me ecstatic.

33
Nudisto_Beach•

Oh man, same here. Played Dude Paladin non stop through Ungoro and KFT in Wild. You’d think I would’ve been bored to death with it by now but no, not at all. Call To Arms making it somewhat irrelevant makes me sad.

7

I unpacked Lynessa a few days ago and put together a mid-rangey Buff Paladin deck and it's actually pretty fun. So much so that I might craft Tirion next.

1
sharmakarma15•

I also unpacked Lynessa the other day and instantly crafted The Last Kaleidosaur and made a quest paladin deck and can’t win a game with it for my life.

3

Honestly, the Paladin Quest is terrible. It was the last legendary I pulled from Ungoro and I instantly dusted it. It just takes too many buff cards. All you should need are Potion of Heroism, Blessing of Kings, and Spikeridged Steed. I also run Adaptation because it's cheap and if you can get Can't be Targeted by Spells or Windfury on Lynessa it's pretty much game over. Also, run two Hydrologists and always pick Getaway Kodo if it's offered. Drop Lynessa and then play Getaway Kodo so you get Lynessa back when it dies.

1
MOOIMASHARK•

Wait until April.

2
cloudsmastersword•

I'd say Tirion is a safe craft no matter what time of year or rotation. One of the strongest most versatile legendaries in the game and it's always going to be in standard. He's an auto include in any paladin deck that isn't balls to the wall aggro. Heck, there have been metas in which the only reason Paladin was viable was because of Tirion.

4
ballmot•

^^but ^^you ^^can ^^use ^^an ^^out ^^of ^^my ^^jungle ^^instead

2
MOOIMASHARK•

He hasn't been relevant since at least August. eventually he'll be relevant again but it's hard to say when, and might not be for a long time. Maybe OP has a huge amount of dust but I don't have enough to craft a legendary that is just going to sit on the shelf for the foreseeable future.

-1
Obilis•

I loved N'zoth paladin back when that was a thing. I'm really hoping for something that makes control paladin work again.

1
Nudisto_Beach•

I play mostly Wild so Wild archetypes will be included here.

  1. Kingsbane Rogue.
  2. Malygos Shaman
  3. Some form of combo warrior.
  4. Spell hunter
  5. Aluneth Mage (I know it’s strong now... but I love this deck and I can’t help wishing it receives the Priest or most recently Warlock treatment!) XD
  6. Midrange Token Druid
  7. Dragon Soul Miracle Priest
  8. Dude Paladin or Control/Exodia Paladin.

Basically any deck that uses the DKs and/or legendary weapons in creative ways.

18
ThinkFree•

I agree with the archetypes you posted, especially with Aluneth Tempo Mage and Spell Hunter.

I would also like to see more new archetypes as well.

1
sirmcclane•

Spell hunter might really be interesting but more tempo mage cards, really? I'm ok if they make one card or two that could fit the archetype but please not a drakonid operative for tempo mage please. At least if they create aggro cards, I'd like to see a new kind of aggro deck, not just buffing already good decks.

1
MOOIMASHARK•

I'm a bit dismayed at the fact that Aluneth doesn't also belong in control mage.

1
Nudisto_Beach•

Hey, look at the bright side - you guys have your own cool cards too. You get to play around with Frost Lich Jaina and Dragoncaller Alanna. :)

4
Shasan23•

Aluneth is the antithesis of Control

2
inkyblinkypinkysue•

I can’t stand Aluneth Mage right now. Draw, draw, draw, secret, secret, secret, point spells to face. Awful to play against. That said, I like the Mage weapon. I’d like them to expand on it by making a bunch of cards that shuffle other cards into your deck so that a control variant can avoid fatigue.

1
jojaw•

Been playing some malygos shaman recently and it's a lot of fun, especially the spellstone version that runs elemental destruction because you can still OTK an armoured up druid.

1
Nudisto_Beach•

Have you tried playing with 2x Hexes or Devolve to deal with the Big Priests and warlocks? If so, how are they working out for you?

2
jojaw•

Only got into wild recently so I'm around rank 17, meaning more aggro decks so I run 2x Devolve. I'm trying crushing hand for single target removal at the moment because it upgrades the spellstone really easily, but the overload(3) might be a bit restrictive.

1
ElCharmann•

Elemental Shaman is the easiest way to make Shaman relevant again.

Deathrattle Hunter is fun and maybe without N'zoth they're able to print better deathrattles.

I would also love to see Spell Hunter with To My Side get more love.

Dragon Tempo warrior was a fun deck and would love to see it make a comeback, but it was way too reliant on FWA so Tempo Warrior might never come back

14
KING_5HARK•

I would also love to see Spell Hunter with To My Side get more love.

5 mana, if your deck has no minions, 5 damage to all enemy minions - the dream

3
ComanderRO•

without N'zoth they're able to print better deathrattles.

Just remember that wild is a format too, with love, your average wild player

BIG SPELL MAGE! <333

9
VindicoAtrum•

Fucking loving this one.

On one hand, we lose firelands. On the other, it now summons so many shitty 2/2s or whatever since the pool got diluted again, so many poorly statted minions with effects you don't get after rotation (no more possessed lackeys thank fuck).

So we need something to make up for losing a 7 mana deal 5 + get minion for sure, the deck will struggle with no good replacement. Fireball has the damage, but you don't want another 2 4 mana spells in the deck really, 2x poly is already the lowroll for dragon's fury. Here's hoping we get a decent high mana blast spell.

As for the rest, we literally don't lose anything else. Some lists run dirty rat, I don't so no loss there.

5
nahlim_mcbeal•

Yeah! Medivh leaves, too, and that's also an important card. As for Dirty Rats, I kinda like having them, but after a Warlock pulled my Alanna, I realized it's free to go to Wild. xD But this deck restored my love for the game and excitement for the things to come! Let's hope they give it some love!

2
VindicoAtrum•

I don't run Medivh, don't have him and he wasn't worth the craft.

I've experimented with a few replacements, some have been dirt, some have been hilariously inconsistent (marin, hah) and some have been decent (lich king, slows the game down, the card isn't always useful however).

1
nahlim_mcbeal•

Oh, care to share your favorite list?

1
ihavenoicecream•

yeah the deck is almost there. atm its not that bad but it barely stands a chance against cubelock and jade druid

yeah Jade Druid is easy. Cubelock is almost impossible.

1
HuntedWolf•

Shamans spellstone is innately terrible, much as I love using it, it’s so expensive and hard to complete you need a really good payoff, but the payoff is 4 of the same guy, which usually just means 4 minions all weak to exactly the same type of board clear, and with the huge mana cost, it’s potential for combos is very limited.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s really fun to play 4 giants or get 4 earth elementals on board, it just kills you a bit inside when you play around the priests Anduin all game before pulling it off, only for him to psychic scream.

8
MaybeICanOneDay•

4 Malygos with a nuke to the face.

6
DSV686•

Too bad druid can do 4 malygos for 3 mana instead of 16

7
MaybeICanOneDay•

Yeah but this is on expanding the archetype. Who knows if Shaman gets a decent combo play.

2
GrandmasterFizzles•

It’s not bad with Leeroy in Wild

1
greatergoon•

Same procedure as every year: control hunter

7
KING_5HARK•

Well, anything relevant for Hunter will suffice. Its losing one of 2 viable onedrops, Bonemare doesnt curve out with Highmane anymore(aka the better Cairne), Pirates are out and Creeper just got a whole lot worse

2
dwpunch•

Control Warrior x1000 please.

6
herren•

Elemental Shaman! I think elemental Shaman is on the brink on being really viable, as both elemental Shaman legendaries are incredible strong, and there are a lot of cool directions which this archetype can take. It just needs one/two solid/OP Elemental minions, and it is good to go.

5
Junebuck•

The minions are already strong imo. The problem is that strong decks, even Control decks, can go really wide fast. And with the garbage-ass Lightning storm and slightly better Volcano being the only options (Devolve doesn't count), I find that the deck generally rolls over and dies while other classes have answers.

2
MaybeICanOneDay•

I want a Sonya, Shadowcaster, Illusionist, Zola deck. I am currently running something like this but there is no win condition. It is just a spam of 1/1 weasels.

4
Velcositro•

Dragon Warrior (No more Dragon Priest)

Burgle Rogue

Something new and original but not too op for priest.

3
EC_Sn0wFlak3•

I for one would love to see Miracle Priest becoming a thing.

3
MaybeICanOneDay•

I have been trying man. It is difficult to make this happen. You can't really close out with Leeroy (no cold bloods) like rogue, so you are forced to go the giant route. Which is fine, but sort of becomes meta dependent without much room to move if it doesn't fit.

I HIGHLY recommend running the gemstone because then you have no fear of just dropping Lyra and giants and such. You can even make room for the 4/8 fuck their board deathrattle for priest but it hurts to drop that bitch for 9 mana. I had success with it but I don't think it is great and there is better options.

Hoping you draw Dragon Soul is kind of shit but you can sort of work around this by pretending the card doesn't exist in your deck. That way you stop thinking of the pipe dream 5/5 dragons. I put auctioneers in the deck but it isn't absolutely mandatory tbh. With the spell stone, you get at least a bit of value off of Lyra, still kind of sucks though without auctioneer. You should probably run at least one, I run two.

The spell stones were basically made for Miracle Priest and so is the weapon obviously, I think the spell stone should cost 4-5 mana and maybe have the effect nerfed a bit or the "quest" to complete it be a little more difficult. 7 mana summon a few minions is pretty shit when you think about it. I run the 4/8 deathrattle cancer specifically for this card because spending 7 mana just feels so shit when you draw like Cleric and that 2/3 reduce spell cost guy. It is just so shitty to spend 7 mana and get 6 mana worth of small minions. Have to dilute that pool with Lyra, Giants, 4/8 DR cancer.

So yeah, it isn't bad, but it seriously isn't good. I think there is a way to do it, I just don't know what to change as I always feel like I spend a lot of turns doing nothing. Rogue runs a lot of burst damage spells so they can close out the game, shadowstep, cold blood, leeroy, evis, all these cards when you draw them on your miracle turns feel pretty awesome. In priest it is just like you start drawing and it's just "silence, cleric, circle of healing, summon a 5/5, power world shield" and you are just sitting there looking at a shitty board but at least you just silenced everything, healed your hero for 12, and maybe threw out a mind blast but are still garbage on the board with no burst to close it out. Can run the inner fire divine spirit combo but then why not just play silence priest with dragons? Sort of just out values you right from turn 1 and will continue to do so with the 4/9 you just buffed to like 32/32. Plus, what do you get rid of? Obviously the 4/8 is just useless so throw that away, but what else? You kind of need the board clears to survive and the heals and such for anti aggro. You don't really have a choice here.

I think maybe running Velen with mind blast can make the miracle turn okay but then you sort of rely on resurrect or the spell stone, but at least this could potentially give you a 20 damage turn, the odds of that happening are slim. Not to mention, dragons will hurt your rez pool.

They should have just made Dragon Soul have the text "Every time you cast 3 spells in a turn, deal 3 damage to the opponents hero." But of course this would break razakus. Maybe with the nerfs if wouldn't be so bad though...

Who fucking knows dude. I am trying, that is what I am getting at here lol.

7
KevinSevenSeven•

I’ve been trying as well, and really don’t see the spell stone fitting. It’s way too expensive and such a dead draw if you get it too early, plus the possibility of rezzing two clerics and a 2/3 are way too high.

1
MaybeICanOneDay•

the 2/3 isn't so bad because it can keep your miracle turn going but maybe we aren't supposed to run clerics. Maybe we are supposed to fit in another cheap spell or a better on board presence in the early game like tar creeper (definitely not the answer but potentially an answer). Card draw would have to come from power word shield. You would have to cut potion of madness too though (if you are currently running it). No idea where the rest of the card draw would come from in the early...

3
KevinSevenSeven•

Imo cleric is just too good for early cycle to cut, and cycle is super important in the deck (at least the version I’m running). I’ve experimented with wild pyros and acolyte of pains for card draw. Pyro+cleric+spell+circle of healing can also get you insane draw.

The biggest problem I run into when playing this deck is you often have no good board presence until turn 5-6, maybe earlier if you get a good draw of weapon and cheap spells. I’ve also run a death rattle version with the guy who makes coins and the new death rattle resurrect spell, but the 2/2 body is so bad for the coin death rattle. It makes me sad comparing it to the rogue version, even a 2/3 would be so much better for 3 mana. Tar creeper could help with this, and it gives you a couple turns to piece together your combo.

Control Warrior has been out of the meta for a long time now. I want Blizzard to make Control Warrior competitive again.

Nerevaryne•

Nominion hunter. I love the concept, fun to watch, but it's not good enough yet to validate an investment.

2
wednesday_1•

Cubelock.

2
Wenpachi•

I'd say Deathrattle, but with N'Zoth leaving, it makes it a tad weaker.

Yesterday I thought about expanding the Dragon/Elemental synergies. Something like "if you're holding 2 Dragons, do this" or "if you played 2 Elementals last turn, do this". Also the same for Kobolds, Undeads etc. (hopefully, someday they'll get their tribe tags)

1

I think with N'zoth rotating they'll be able to print even stronger Deathrattle cards.

3
ARoaringBorealis•

I would actually love to see more midrange-type murlocs come out for the shaman quest. Other than that, I really enjoy the theme of big spell Mage so far.

1
TheBrodysseus•

Just more build around cards in general.

Brewing sucks because there is one pushed (whether good or not) archetype per class. And the only good neutral cards are OP value creatures that get nerfed into oblivion after being in every deck.

1
TyoRim•

Pirate warrior.
