Tyrndarian Research Vessel Crashing Wave Currently landed Martian Moon Phobos

-Wheyvuhshine-

The Tyrndarian researcher was at its desk in the lab, and prepared to enter in the newly gleaned data.

Data entry: Planet SB38265, known by its inhabitants as ‘Earth’. Surface is roughly covered by 70% water. Planet is rich in minerals. Earth is on the higher end of the gravity spectrum, just inside the range that makes rockets a viable means of escaping Earth’s gravity. Earth appears to be a planet of extremes with complex weather, oceanic, and tectonic systems. It seems to be a planet constantly in flux; earthquakes, volcanic activity, and catastrophic weather conditions are not rare occurrences. Surface temperatures can range from 93.9 Celsius to -93.2 Celsius. Earth is oxygen baring, and there is a large number of native species, including several sentient, and at least one sapient species. The fact that Earth, despite its harsh conditions, houses sapient life, makes it off limits for off planetary mining or for colony seeding. This is in keeping with Coalition Regulation 57 Article 3, sub section 4a.

Fauna and Flora: For the whole, life on the planet seems to be a perpetual biological arms race. This fact, combined with the highly volatile nature of the surface of the planet, has the effect that, several, if not most, of the species from this planet are either toxic, highly regenerative, cunning, strong, or highly resilient. In some cases they have several of these traits (see subsections Australian Lifeforms and Oceanic Lifeforms). Due to the higher than standard gravity, most terrestrial species are smaller but several times more dense than most life outside of their sphere of rock and water. In spite of all the hardships, life has exploded across the surface of this world, one would be hard-pressed to find a square meter of terrain that does not have some form of life, either macro or micro, on it.

-Khaine-

After being reunited the two hugged. Khaine had spent the first few moments just breathing in her smell and basking in being whole again. After a moment he noticed that a naga-thulu with a slightly bluer sheen to its scales had followed Maia into the room. Khaine slowly eased his wife behind him, and he said, very slowly and clearly.

“Look man, you guys gave her back, so...thanks. However, unless you want something, speak up or leave us in peace.”

He felt a hand on his shoulder as his wife walked around him, “They can’t hear you, babe, just...sit put for a minute, I’ll be right back.”

Okay, so...they can’t hear me? What did that mean? Why was she leaving the room? Khaine had nothing but questions as she walked out of the room with the naga-thulu and the door slid closed. A few moments later the door opened and she walked back in. Khaine arched his eyebrow at her. Of course, she beamed at him, which made him grin, she could always do that...

“Heya hotstuff!”

“Sup luv, what was that about? Can’t talk to your new buddies in front of your husband?”

“Kinda, it’s complicated. How you holding up?”

“Having SERE flashbacks, but other than that not as bad as it could be. Not hungry yet, so we can’t have been gone too long, a few hours at the most. You?”

“Okayish, more worried about the kids than anything, now that I found you.”

“I feel you, there. Can’t do anything about the kids yet, so let’s compare notes, shall we?”

She nodded and he organized his thoughts.

“One, we are on some form of spaceship piloted by naga-thulus.”

“I’ve been calling them octo-nagas, but ya.”

“OK, octo-nagas, whatever, not the point, luv. Two, they are psychic?”

“Actually, kinda, more like they can hear active thoughts, not true mind readers…how did you pull that outta your ass?”

“You said ‘they can’t hear you’. ‘Can’t hear’ means they need some other form of communication, especially in a race that apparently has spaceships.”

“Darnit, I sometimes forget you aint just a pretty face.”

“Thanks, babe,” he said, acting wounded at her jab, “Three, you can speak to them, but I can’t?”

“Ya, but we will get back to that.”

“Fair enough, four, they are slow as heck.”

“You caught that too? Ya they may look strong, but they aint too fast, the one I was following to get here mentioned something about them being used to swimming and not built for speed.”

“Stands to reason, the way their body is set up…at least the snake portion, reminds me of the sea snakes I’ve seen while diving. Or a moray eel. Also makes sense about them being deaf then. Why is the ship filled with gas then, instead of liquid?”

“Dunno, I can ask that I guess. Anything else?”

“Given my two interactions…ya.”

“Fine, my turn. They don’t know much about humans, they thought you and I were separate species, apparently your greater size and mass-“

“Did that asshole call me big and fat?”

“Hehe. No, I don’t think he would even use those terms, he speaks kinda like your dad.”

“So he’s an engineer..great.”

“If you will let me FINISH.”

“Oh...ya, sorry.”

“So, yes because you are bigger and fatter-“

“Bitch”

“-than me, they thought you were a different species, that and you are a ‘null’?”

“’Null’? The fuck is a ‘null’?”

-Wheyvuhshine-

Wheyvuhshine looked at its notes that had been compliled after scans, impressions, and briefly conversing with the new species and prepared to enter them into the database.

Data entry: Homo Sapiens, also goes by the name ‘Human’, ‘People’, ‘Mankind’. Not the most numerous species on Earth, however, easily the most dominant. A sapient mammalian species. Bipedal, omnivore, sexually dimorphic, with males tending to be the larger and more muscular of the species. The human body lacks an exoskeleton, but is based upon a dense rigid calcium-based skeleton. By weight, human bone is roughly 5 times stronger than steel. Their skeletal frame houses their brain, heart and lungs. Their frame is sheathed in densely packed muscle fibers, a complex neurological system, and a very efficient circulatory system. Humans possess binocular vision and can detect vibrations, they primarily communicate through vibrations. As a side note humans react to norepinephrine as a stimulant, do NOT try to sedate them with norepinephrine.

The following information was provided by human 'Maia' (a self-described ‘runaholic’) and has yet to be validated. The human system is efficient to the point where they can out-perform much larger and faster species. They can run for hours, in some reported cases up to 80 hours without stopping (See data entry Dean Karnazes). The human body is also home to several trillions of foreign cellular and multicellular lifeforms, almost 70% of the cells in a human’s body did not originate from the human itself but from outside sources. More information to follow as studies continue.

Wheyvuhshine took a deep breath before he wrote the next part of the report and coded it appropriately.

Warning: Classified to Conflict Management Department, sub department Null-Coalition Conflict Council.

Humans seem to be made of two types, Communicators and Nulls. To date, humans are the ONLY known sapient species that are Nulls. Given the violent and highly predatory nature of all observed Null species the Coalition has encountered, what this implies is troubling. To compound matters, the human Nulls are more than Nulls, they appear to be ‘Null Nodes’. This disturbing fact alone is possibly the most disturbing. Coalition science can typically detect sapient communicators on a world, indeed the silence coming from Earth is why it was being considered for colonization by my species. Earth is not devoid of sapient communicators, it is actually covered in them. They could not be detected though, because of the combined Null Node generated by its species. Again. THEY. SILENCED. A. PLANET. It is yet to be seen about the nature of this species, if they will follow the path of war and be swept up by the null-hive. More information to follow...please be patient.

Sorry for the delay, work and real life got in the way, and sorry for the slow nature of the entry, but it is some required world building before I start picking it up. Thank you for reading, and as always, comments and critiques are always welcome.

93.9C? Really?

+56.7C to -89.2C is the extreme "surface temperature" range according to guinness WRs... but that's using specific guidelines: 1.5m off the ground, shielded from direct sunlight - it's "air" temperature.

The actual surface gets hotter, as anyone who's stood on asphalt in the summer could tell you. The +93.9C record was measured from the sand in death valley, and unnatural surfaces (like, say, beach parking lots) get hotter than that.

Thank you sir, but yes, 93.9C is achievable

I really like this so far. Starting out with a couple isn't something that's done here much and their interaction is well done. That's also a great way to mask exposition.

Thank you for enjoying it. My wife grinned when she read it...she said she sees a lot of our convos in how they talk to each other
