Hey, I was in mid-edit when I saw your reply :). I think I will stick to this for now. Thanks again for your feedback! Really helped :)

> I found truths within the shades of experience.

> These old wounds are evidence of my journey.

> This watchful eye readies for injustice,

> For my mind has been trained to expect horrors.

> An old soul fortified against surprises.

> Yet a taste of hope still weakens my knees.

Edit: agreed with the comma after injustice :)

Wow, you already changed it !
I find this new version better. First, the rhyme "problem" is gone, it feels better to read.
The line "For my trained mind expects horror" is great : a mind that is trained to expect horror (wich is something you never get used to, by definition) must really have seen everything.
The fact that you switched to the first person somehow makes it easier to understand and to identify with (isn't it strange ?).
How, and shouldn't it be a comma or a ";" (don't know how it's called in English) instead of a full stop after Injustice ? The following line seems to work better that way.

Thanks for the feedback! Greatly appreciated.

I wrote, edited, and re-edited over and again. It's very interesting that you said knights since I was kind of going for a double meaning to the poem.

When read literally, my intent was for it to sound like someone who is ready for battle. Figuratively, it was to convey a person who is abused and guarded but can still be weakened by seeing hope where he can find it.

I'm in complete agreement with your assessment. Just not happy with the middle. Will make adjustments when I find the right words.

Thank you again :)

First I have to warn you that I'm a begginer in poetry, and English isn't my first language (i discover so many new words in this sub...)

Now, this is good.
I really like the first line. even if it's something that one may find pretty obvious, you turn it in an interesting way that carries a strong meaning in a few words. It feels like a perfect introduction.
In comparison, the three next lines seems a (very) little bit weakened, but I couldn't find a better way to say this, so I guess it's still good.
The end carries the whole message in one line, wich is great and powerful. However, from my (humble) point of view, the words "bend the knees" isn't the perfect choice as it feels specifically oriented to the knights, lords Kings and these kind of stuff you find in the Middle Age and in GoT. But really, it's just my feeling (maybe it's because of GoT hehe) and once again, I can't find something better.
Also, the whole poem except the first line uses the same rhyme (more or less). I feel

this was powerful in a short punch. I really liked how it showed how there is still hope inside the writer even though they have experienced some pain. its raw and gritty then leans on the beauty of hope. I really liked it a lot

I think the way you used metaphor in this poem. I am also fond of short and sweet poems that can be taken in quickly. The emotion and message is clear, yet makes you think after reading it, which is exactly what a poem should be.
