You caught me at my window
If I do pause at the window
Enraptured in its nature
Does fear course to and fro
Curiosity I would wager
I imagine you might be out there
Smiling up at me
I'd return my smile fair
leave you wondering
Why does she smile
When she cannot see
Her temperament must be mild
If she smile so simply
Or maybe I see strangers
lurking right behind
Hiding fearful dangers
My heart runs quick and blind
Say perhaps I did imagine
A spirit kind and rare
So I'd rather begin
To believe that smile we did share
Maybe my grip on reality
Has faltered and depart
Searching for you rarely
Has fooled my naive heart
Maybe you too search
And imagine me smiling back
We can both pretend
Windows are funny like that
