Initially I was baffled by the length of the poem, but then it hit me, Could a fish on the line be a metaphor for something else? Maybe having a g'time with a fish on the line means having a good time with a girl? Later I realized the simplicity and purity of the poem; fish on the line is really just a fucking fish on the fucking line, cause sometimes that's really all you need - to have a great time with a fish on the line, not worrying about if's and so's.
This isn't a poem, it's a common phrase in ***** County.
I'm curious what you were going for here. It rings like a line from a country song, though at the moment, I can't recall which.
I think in a longer poem it could have potential, but the brevity of this poem just doesn't do it for me.
I'm trying to send a message with the brevity - sometimes all you really need is a fish on the line. When you're out there on the river, nothing else matters. It's just you, a can of nightcrawlers, and that fish. (and of course the good lord above)
