No need for a stretcher/transport method when you kill every patient you encounter.

Honest question: What is the appropriate truck water capacity to respond to an unconscious diabetic?

37
FiyahMedicβ€’

Fire engines, like fire/medics, are capable of responding to more than just one type of call.

How much adenosine does your patient with a broken finger need? None, but you still have it on the ambulance, because you might need it on your next call.

2†
GrabbinPillsβ€’

Flight is also capable of responding to lift assists but that would be a similarly silly and ineffective use of resources.

12
FiyahMedicβ€’

That's a pretty ridiculous analogy. You could outfit an entire medium-sized city with new fire and EMS rigs for the cost of one new medevac chopper. It costs a few bucks in fuel to send a fire engine on a med call. The benefits to the citizens greatly outweigh the costs in most instances.

GrabbinPillsβ€’

kinda like you can outfit multiple ambulances compared the cost of the single pumper/medic truck

I saw your post in r/ekgs today. You're on a role, huh? I like your gumption.

With the ambulance drivers

3
fiddlesticks1908β€’

They whip the hose out and toss the patient in the back. Once the hose is out it's the patient's hole. You could probably fit two guys in there at the same time.

There's a group of people out there that consider fire a blessing to paramedics. I am a part of that group, and I am happy firefighters are on my team. The people who speak up all the damn time about this us vs. them just want drama.

But those of you commenting jokingly, yes I make fun of people I like.

13
threepointrestUtah AEMTβ€’

Firefighters are absolutely an asset to paramedics. Extra sets of hands are never a bad thing.

But when firefighters are the paramedics, you're suddenly asking a single person to perform two different roles, and patient care suffers for it more than should ever be acceptable.

18
DrNolandoER TECHβ€’

Exactly, some one has to be there to code the aspiration pt, covered in Emesis, or lift the 600 Couch hound, and that's when I smile and thank the EMS gods for those strapping fire lads

7
IShouldNotTalkFF/PMβ€’

Be bumfuck municipality with an FD, don't want to outfit or staff a transporting unit because of cost, private EMS will take the contract for a dollar, plan to make money on transport fees, after a while private starts sending units supposed to be covering municipality to do interfacility transports because money, municipality winds up paying to license the engine as a medic truck anyway due to piss poor transporting response from half the county away, MFW 'pure medics' get salty about fire medics.

6†
CompulsiveAntagonistOPTN Paramedicβ€’

Luckily I work for a county EMS. No privates do 911 around here. Firefighters are volunteers. Funny how it works when funding goes where it's needed.

Funny that.

How much money does it cost to have that thing show up to a call, and how many people would be on it? Srs question no troll, just curious

5
MentaLMayhemIL EMTβ€’

It's just a fire engine, no patient compartment. Soo, anywhere from 3-5ish usually on it.
