The Remains
The Remains
.
You got a ghost in you, boy—shake it out.
Spirits lifted into the stars.
Come rattle your cage around the fire.
These bones, they burn hot.
.
Everyone has their ghost, it’s like a father.
How else do we know to fear death?
Stomp in those shoes like they ain’t yours—they’re not.
You live on a pile of skulls.
.
There’s a man that sits on a skeleton throne.
Look up, kid. See where I’m pointing?
That man lives on a mountain, above us all.
There are armies under his feet.
.
His soul was handed down to him; old, tired—
Reminder of fire and blood—
But ours were, too, and again to our sons.
They will dance here, just like we do.
