Just passed 4 months HRT! Still hiding it

MtF here

I just wanted to reach out to the community because I've been very isolated in my transition.

Right before I started transitioning I was dealing with couch surfing homelessness, and the next few months basically removed me from having access to the internet, although I had at least found a steady place to live.

I'm transitioning closeted, basically. I live where I work, and the culture is conservative here. One co-worker that I have been willing to confide in told me the last transgender person who worked here (whowas FtM) was not viewed very positively. I have a lot of anxiety about this because I'm rather visibly growing breasts at this point. Any time I want to leave my house to go do things as my true self, I have to dress as a boy and carry a bag with my feminine clothing and makeup so I don't risk someone seeing. I can't tell you how much I just want to walk out my door as myself.

Other than hiding it, things are actually going rather well. My financial and living situation has stabilized and the HRT seems like it's being hyper effective for me (or maybe I'm just exaggerating in my own mind). A friend of mine even told me recently they noticed a difference in the softening of my facial features. My skin is smoother, my body hair is becoming much thinner, and like I said earlier I'm experiencing significant breast growth (they lactate too!).

On the whole, things are better. I'm no longer suicidal or filled with anger and bitterness. I do get lonely a lot though, which is why I'm beyond exited to have internet again. I spent last night obsessively watching Contrapoints and memes on r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

Now I feel less lonely :)

I was on HRT for 9 months before I came out at work. The culture at my job at the time was supportive and my transition at work was totally fine, but I just had a lot going on in my life and I did quite a few different comings out to various groups over the course of about a year.

Anyway, if you're going to stay closeted at work for a while and are developing breasts, I highly recommend sports bras. They'll keep things squished down and make your boobs less noticable. Also, you get the side benefit of wearing a bra every day, which is validating.

Hi there! I just wanna tell you that you’re so brave and a hero. You are doing what it takes to be your authentic self after enduring so many hardships. In time, you will look back and see that because of your truth, others like us can feel empowered to do the same. You will be stronger and smarter, proud of your accomplishments and the life you lived on your own terms. Remember that you are not alone, I understand what you are going through. HRT can be amazing with it’s ability to correct ones emotional and physical well-being, for some it works very quickly, with others much slower. It made me feel amazing! and 10 months later I’m still very much feeling awesome! Despite having my life problems the worst it has been my whole life.

I'm sorry you're going through problems, and I hope they improve soon. Thank you for your words of encouragement!

Hey there. I just want to say that our culture is conservative here too and if they were to figure out I'm trans, they'd kick me out homeless. I am extremely lonely and transitioning in secret too (barely 4 months on HRT). What makes it worse is that I go to school at a female dominated area and I'd hate for them feel uncomfortable. You can pm me anytime since we're almost in a similar situation. I hope you stay safe hugs

While I don't live in a particularly conservative area, I do work in a blue collar career field that's not known to be particularly accepting. I'm not out at work, to my family, or even to most of my friends. I'm at about 2 months HRT right now and I feel like I'm gonna fucking explode. I went out as my true self in a different city last weekend and now having to be back in the closet is brutal. So I kinda understand how you feel. Solidarity, sister!

I'm super happy you are feeling good about yourself overall. I'm basically doing the same thing at work. I'm close to 5 months now. I figured i would be good for another few months on hormones before i fully came out at work, but i am finding each week I take my hormone injections i see a slight increase in breast size. Just this morning I woke up to see that, while still small, my breasts are starting to round out and are less Cornish. If you look hard enough you can see the breasts, lol. The first thing i said to myself this morning was "well shit, guess i'm gonna have to come out at work soon. It's a toss up of how supportive my work will be but there is at least two trans people other then myself that I know of who work/worked here, so maybe I will be good on that. *shrug*. Either way, you aren't alone. Keep on keeping on sister, we will make it through this.

Girl, just worried about your lactation. That's not supposed to happen, it means you are producing too much prolactin, which can be dangerous in the future. No worries, it's easily fixed. Just tell your endocrinologist about it :)

It only lactates if I make it, not randomly if that makes a difference.

You should only get a clear liquid out of pinching your nipples, and that'd be fine. If it's opaque, white, or has blood in it, you need to get it checked out.

It's perfectly clear, so yay!
