Promoted to blue: Question about healing from belt whipping gauntlet
So tonight, after almost 2 years of training (anniversary is October 1), I got promoted to blue. We do the belt whipping gauntlet, and holy crap! my back hurts like no other. What did you guys do to heal faster from that? I went to the grocery store right away to buy a crap load of ice to get into an ice bath, but it aint enough.

Go to better schools
I saw a guy ho through the gauntlet and it was brutal. People hurt him. How is that a way to treat your team mates?
Its not, its shitty
It's fun. I'm sad my new school doesn't do it.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It’s hazing. I’ve never been a fan of it. It’s violence for violence sake, there is no training purpose to it.
Yeah I hate that my school still does this.
What do you mean?
He means fuck gauntlet whipping.
any particular reason?
IMHO, because I feel its a stupid tradition. Id much rather do a 30 mins shark tank straight rolling as a promotion tradition. Gauntlet whipping doesnt contribute to improving your BJJ game anyway.

Gauntlet gets a lot of hate in here. Ignore it. I love it and think it's a great tradition.
Is there a particular reason it gets a lot of hate?
It's an American-originated hazing ritual that has nothing to do with BJJ or Brazil or Japan or Judo, and even people who don't want to participate are frequently peer-pressured into doing so. A lot of gyms are dropping it.
There are throwing ceremonies and shark-tanking ceremonies that are much more relevant to the sport.
I'm sure people have their reasons, they just aren't reasons I understand or agree with.
To me... It's fun, and it's part of the experience. The ones that hit me the hardest are the ones I'm closest to. Assuming I stick with it to Black Belt like I plan on, I'll get to walk the gauntlet 3 times... That's it! That's like 3 minutes of pain for hundreds of hours spent on the mats. People make it out to be a much bigger deal than it is in my opinion.
Cuz reddit is full of sjw pussies. Even in here.

Agree, it's a little flesh wound bruising. Mostly cosmetic and temporary.
These are probably the same people that think Roche is a violent psychopath.
