31 Days of Vince Russo "Special Matches" in 1999/2000 WCW - #7: Wedding Gown Match (Stacy Keibler vs. Daffney) from Bash at the Beach PPV on July 9, 2000.
The seventh entry features Stacy Kiebler vs. Daffney in the Wedding Gown Match from Bash at the Beach on July 2000.
The link to the video can be found here: https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1lx3no and on the WWE Network here, starting at the 30:39 mark.
This match was rated minus 1 star by Dave Meltzer. This match was on the same Bash at the Beach card as the Hogan/Jarrett World Title match and the Vampiro/The Demon Graveyard Match. The in-ring action was bad, but I will rate this match as a little better than the Graveyard Match mainly because of how great Stacy Keibler looks in the wedding "gown".
This was Stacy Keibler's second match in her career, and her first singles match. Daffney held the WCW World Cruiserweight Title with Crowbar for seven days in 2000 (don't ask) and for fifteen days thereafter before losing the title in a triple threat match with Disco Inferno and Lt. Loco (Chavo Guerrero, Jr.)
Here are the rules for the Wedding Gown Match. The first opponent to rip the other girl's wedding gown off wins.
Before I get into the match itself, here’s some brief context:
David Flair is kayfabe engaged to Daffney. During this time, David Flair started seeing Stacy Kiebler on the side (making this the only time in my life I have been envious of David Flair). This sets up a love triangle between David Flair, Daffney, and Stacy Keibler which leads to the Wedding Gown Match.
Now, onto the match itself.
Stacy Kiebler (wearing the shortest wedding gown I've ever seen) comes down to the ring with David Flair by her side. Scott Hudson says there's wedding cake at ringside, and "we know what happens when that goes down on a pro wrestling show." Nice foreshadowing, Scott. David and Miss Hancock then make it in the ring (again, very envious of David Flair).
Daffney then comes down the entrance ramp wearing a black wedding gown. She gives David Flair a low blow from behind and attacks Stacy Keibler as the bell rings. David Flair tries to help Stacy Keibler a few times. Eventually, while David Flair pulls Daffney off of Stacy Keibler (trying to help Stacy), the ref pulls Stacy Kiebler away from Daffney...for reasons. Stacy gives the ref a low blow after he attempts to pull Stacy away for a second time. Stacy pulls the refs pants off to reveal his ref shirt tucked under his tighty-whiteys. Daffney then pulls David Flair's pants off to reveal his white underwear.
Now, the ref is on the mat trying to cover up. David Flair is on the mat crawling away after receiving yet another low blow. David returns with a pair of hair clippers, and Stacy tries to shave Daffney's hair off. Crowbar then runs in to save the day. Crowbar delivers a suplex to David Flair, and then Crowbar decides to take his pants off...for reasons. Crowbar chokes David Flair with Crowbar's pants, and Daffney is about to shave David Flair's head.
Stacy Keibler grabs a microphone and says that the audience all knows what they came to see. Stacy says to hit her music. She takes her skirt off and reveal her panties, and that's enough to apparent end the match. The ref calls for the bell. Stacy dances while the three guys are sitting on the corner (all in their underwear) watching Stacy. Daffney hits Stacy in the face with wedding cake as the big cake fight ensues. Eventually, the fight ends with everyone and the mats covered in cake.
