For lab purposes, why would you? Technet evaluations last 6months, which is close enough to the usable lifespan of a windows install that you might as well rebuild at that point anyway.

This is exactly the example of a questionable source for license keys. They might work, they might not, but it's not really legit

Thanks all! I was hoping to source it through a fellow home labber, but I'll check out other avenues.
Censored.
These are legit retail (not volume) licenses. It's still very much the grey market, as the way it works is that large companies buy huge amounts of licenses at a discount, and then sell the left overs (already at sunken cost).
For a home lab - where you're learning how to use Microsoft products, possibly to get an employer to purchase the products later - Microsoft is never going to audit you.
Edit, just realized that might break sub rules, removed the link to another sub.

People - Please read our rules before posting "helpful" links, just because it's the holidays doesn't mean we aren't going to hand out free trips to the time out chair.
*resists the temptation to post an ubuntu download link*
Lol!
If your lab is non production and you’re a student high school or higher potential dream spark will get you one for educational purposes. However you will still have to do AVMA with the host assigned the license most likely running core for resource and patching decreases to make it worth while.
Yeah if you have an .edu email address you should be able to get a free 2016 datacenter license. I have 2 of them myself.
Sadly this really doesn't work well anymore. I used to be able to click a link with alumni email forwarding. Now I can't anymore and you need to be approved by the college. Works fine if you are a student, but the alumi loophole is closed off.
It must vary by institution, I still have access to my undergrad email account.
