How to offer my grandpa weed?

Personal

So I'll try to keep this short. My grandpa was diagnosed with cancer a couple of months ago and he has started the treatments after a surgery, he is exactly as he was, joyful and fun. But soon he'll start the treatments that really make you sick and I want to do anything I can to help him. I know that cannabis doesn't cure cancer, but it could help with the nausea, pain and help him eat more if he loses his appetite. I'm pretty certain that he hasn't done any drugs in the past and he's pretty oldschool. How can I suggest weed to him? Obviously I would buy it for him etc.

Simply ask him if he has considered weed to help with the sickness.

I agree with this person.

If your grandpa has never done drugs and is really old school, then having a grandson offer him weed might offend him and cause him to see you differently.

Also, if medical marijuana is legal in your state, he should go about getting it that way in the event he'd like to try it.

I made my gramma pot brownies when she was getting super bad migraines. I didn’t put a lot in there but I told her it might help. She didn’t want to smoke it but she didn’t mind eating it, and it actually did help with pain and the nausea she was getting from it.

Baked brownies sounds like a great option tbh

You have to ask him first. I wouldn't slip him weed brownies without him knowing. He might get scared because he doesn't understand why we would be feeling funny.

i have stage 4 mesothelioma , not alot of life expectancy . my son offered it to me in edibles though i turned it down , cant stand the smell of it otherwise . it could possibly benefit your grandpa , but up to him if he want to try it. they prescribed fentanyl so pain is under control

I didn’t have access to weed when I went through chemo but I did get acupuncture treatments. They helped keep my nausea down and my energy up. I’d go that route again in a heartbeat.

Just ask, he may just not like it, but at least you asked, and didn’t force anything

My grandpa passed in August of Cancer and other things. I got him some balms for his pain in his legs and a tincture that could be added to drinks without tasting it really (he wasn't really eating so edibles wouldn't have helped). He was a little hesitant about it all but did say the balm helped his swelling and pain. Might have been a little late for the rest based on his already bad condition. It's a painful thing to see. Good luck and sending some good thoughts to your grandpa.

Try edibles like put the weed in cookies or brownies that way he won’t choke by the smoke if he’s older

Edibles. No more than 5 mg- 10 mg to start. Show him the science.

Just ask. You have no idea what experiences he’s had in life. Even if he’s never tried it, he probably has known someone who has. How old was he when Woodstock happened?

Offer him edibles rather than A actual smoke, it’s a mental thing that will help him realize he isn’t “smoking”

I had this situation with an aunt, who died in 2006 of breast cancer. I just asked her: I'm not sure where to look, but do you me to search for some pot for ya?

She actually busted up laughing, thinking of her goody-too-shoes nephew going out and 'scoring some wacky weed' for his aunt. Tough times, but good times.

She said that I didn't need to do that. On the other hand, she also had a nice supply of morphine handy. Her remark is now a stock line of mine: "You know that anything with a street value is the good stuff!"

Showing him scientific data. I found https://www.drugabuse.gov/publications/drugfacts/marijuana-medicine and would show him this. It's .gov, so it's a government website, not a .com commercial website. You can show him the section on "How might cannabinoids be useful as medicine?", as there is a section related to cancer research and the use of marijuana.

If your parent is around, you could ask if they would be willing to support you in showing this. Having a child (your parent) and grandchild (you) showing they care and to offer a natural substance to aid in various side-effects of current cancer treatments may help ease him into his choice.

Also, talk with the Doctor or treating staff! They should have a better idea of any sort of drug interactions and they should be able to find research information about possible benefits or complications in marijuana.

So I've actually done this. Just for both my grandparents aches/pains. When you offer, let them know smoking it isn't the only option, a lot of elderly don't know that you can get edibles or pills, tinctures, the stuff that works without the smell. But just as the top comment says, just ask him. And let him know about those non smoking options. Later down the line he may be interested! My grandpa was.

Tell him the benefits of marijuana and ask him if it would be something he'd be interested in

Make it into a herbal tea with sweetners / honey

"Gramps I brought you some tea, might make you relax." says you

I'm most definitely not going to secretly put it into any drink/food. What is wrong with you?
