Didn't realize eating 2000-2500 calories a day was "pro-ana." TIL.

133
pretendlikeyoucare•

You're automatically pro-ana if you don't eat 4-6 small 800-1000 calorie meals a day (which you aren't supposed to calorie count, btw, because that also makes you pro-ana). Embrace your natural, proper adult weight you fatphobe!

'adult weight' sounds so dopey.

I guess that explains all those anorexic fat activists.

Intermittent fasting is growing massively and there is a fair amount of science backing it up.

I seriously think it's going to be a mainstream recommendation for prediabetic in a few years. Eat the crap you want, just eat it all in a couple of hours.

79
Kaelline•

I thought the thing with diabetes is that you have to be careful with sugar? How is it good to first eat a lot of sugar and then have no food for day? I always thought fasting is for healthy people only.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not totally sure how it would work if person has such condition.

3
PigeonPigeon4•

That would be optimal but you have to work with the patient. Obviously they should try to not down two pints of ice cream. They wouldn't have to cut sugar out near completely as the current protocol demands.

It's not so much the amount of sugar but how often they are eating sugar. There blood sugar is sky high 24/7 and that causes the issue. A big spike then dropping down and staying down is much better.

Remember when calling someone “sweetie” or “hon” didn’t automatically, 99.99% of the time mean you were about to a.) speak to them condescendingly/insultingly, or b.) try to pitch something from an MLM?

"Sweetie" and "hon" can be bad, but for me "sweet summer child" is where it really gets dark >:/ I'm lucky I don't live in an English-speaking country, because if I actually heard people say that thing in person instead of just online, I might be in jail for murdering these people with a nail clipper. :o

I don't think so cuz the first comment is her saying eating 2000-2500 all at once once a day.

The overall problem here is that they believe that hunger is a bad thing that can't be experienced or else...something bad happens.

I don't like being hungry, but I'm happy for the feeling; it reminds me that I've changed my eating habits and can be ok with being hungry, because it is a normal thing to experience.

36

I personally can’t do OMAD because it feels too much like the restricting/binging cycle I had when I was still actively bulimic, but that doesn’t mean it’s unhealthy. I’m sure it works out great for a lot of people.

I do see how someone with an ed or in recovery for one could see that and immediately think it’s too similar to be healthy though.

32
PigeonPigeon4•

I think what we need to get to is the stage where everyone accepts there is no one fit all diet. Everyone needs to find what works for them and provided they are getting all their nutrients in then it really doesn't matter what method they use.

22
Persistent_Parkie•

I could see that, hope you're doing better now :)

5
AbsolutelyUnlikely•

Bleh. That was a gross conversation.

25
Heyyohellothere•

You're right. Eating 2000-2500 calories at once each day wouldn't be healthy for me...because my TDEE is only 1500 and that would be way too much food.

(I don't think OMAD is for me regardless, because my body doesn't seem to appreciate fasting that long or eating a lot of food at once, but I'm not going to claim that it's anorexic to skip meals when you still have a perfectly reasonable intake overall.)

19
PigeonPigeon4•

Whereas my body adores fasting. I'm the opposite of other people who claim they need food for an energy boost. I have to exercise whilst fasted because anything in the tank makes me significantly less peppy

15
Heyyohellothere•

Cool. The important thing is finding what works for you and not being the asshole who thinks that what works for them is the solution for everyone else in the world. (Sadly, there are way too many people like that out there.)

5
kss115•

I tend to agree with you. I can't eat a lot at once so that wouldn't work for me. I hate being stuffed.

Some people are just able to eat way more than others. My guess is that most OMAD people have tremendous appetites and have absolutely no issue with the volume.

I'm currently forced into an OMAD diet due to logistical issues that make it really difficult to eat outside of a small window every day. I can comfortably put away 4-5k calories in a single sitting, so eating a 1500-2000 calorie meal once a day is a walk in the park. (No medical issues or eating disorders here, I'm just a guy who loves eating)

On the other hand, one of my friends struggles to eat 2 tacos in a sitting. She would die trying to do OMAD.

6
Paper_Is_A_Liquid•

4-5K calories? Holy balls mate, that's mental. I'm with your friend, I feel ill just thinking about eating that many!

I'm glad it works for you, though :D Good luck with carrying on with it!

Depends on what you're eating. Today I really wanted breakfast foods so we went to Ihop and I got the original french toast combo with 3ish tablespoons of syrup, two eggs over easy, two small sausage links, and half a cup of hashbrowns. Clocked in at 1,200 calories.

What's crazy is that this was just one regular meal from the menu and it comes with all of that food. American portion sizes are intense.

2
LemonMints28F•5'2•SW200•CW130•

Of course! I'm sure you could make it up to 1,500 pretty easy with IHOP. Tack on a drink and you'd pretty much get there with most things on their menu. I've never eaten anything there other than breakfast foods, but looking at their menu for other stuff tells me it wouldn't be hard. 😂 USA USA. (Jk)

1
Kahookelekealaloa•

I've been doing OMAD since last May. I find it incredibly easy to get to 1200 calories, but the reason I chose OMAD was because of my tendency to over-indulge at every meal I eat. My typical meal is: 4 eggs (270 calories), handful of nuts (200 calories), pack of tuna (100 calories), slice of bread covered in olive oil (250 calories), fresh fruit (100 calories), raw vegetables (50 calories). dark chocolate (100 calories), high fat cottage cheese or yogurt (150 calories), I'll also eat an avocado a few times a week.

How is eating 2000+ calories a day possibly pro-ana? Actually I’m not shocked some people think that, but it’s just completely brainless

Eating 2,000-2,500 calories is definitely not pro-ana. 😂
