Honestly a complicated question. I guess maybe agender is closer to the truth but I read male to anyone who looks at me so, idk. I’m still thinking through this stuff. Glad you enjoyed my girls chat episode(?)

Wait, is that a real thing on your bio? I don't understand why the mention of he/him. I am not trying to say this in a sarcastic manner either. You very clearly look like a guy.

It's good to declare your pronouns even if you identify in a way that most people would expect from how you present yourself, because it normalizes it for everyone.

Hey Sam, thanks for coming. Sincere questions here:

It seems like "progressive identity politics" is a really easy tool to undermine worker movements, and reactionaries have a long history of using this tactic. After all, Reagan declared himself an advocate of Indigenous rights when that was a useful wedge to undermine the moral credibility of the Sandinistas. The Soviet Union had some legitimate problems with Antisemitism and bigotry toward certain other minorities, but these issues were greatly amplified by bad-faith actors.

What do you think is the best way for socialists to prevent this from happening? How can we identify splitters and wreckers (deliberate or not) without shutting out the very real concerns of many marginalized groups?

I'm a lot less cynical about identity politics than certain people here, but I do think it's got a history of cynical exploitation by those in power. Disney producing Black Panther or Israel's "pinkwashing" are nothing new, for over a century imperialistic forces have tapped into moralistic sentiments, even subversive ideas such as feminism or social democracy, to justify their own class domination.

While some people on this sub might be compromised by ignorance or personal bigotries, I think most people on this sub sincerely believe that identity politics is weakening the Western left and inhibiting its ability to connect with working-class communities of all backgrounds and races. What do you think?

As many have said, I’m not familiar with you. I can only presume your tweets have been reposted here (perhaps a lot?) If that’s the case then could you share some and then we could discuss where and why we diverge. You could even do them as separate threads perhaps to avoid confusion and this thread can just serve as identification.

I can imagine you may have been severely mocked but if you’re up for a discussion on your views then I (and I assume many others) will be eager to engage in a (hopefully) substantive chat with you.

11
gen_0•

doing a quick search i see this, this, this

tl;dr: he's like vris92 in CTH, which is to say he tries to come across as a tankie type but can't help sperging out over meaningless apolitical drama and can't tell the difference between that and a political ideology. so he punches left with tweets like this all the time. not worth engaging in good faith.

11
ProlificPolymath•

Thanks for sharing but I respectfully disagree about engaging. I’m always eager for a productive conversation and if that doesn’t result then I’ll have egg on my face and I’m fine with that. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Thanks again, comrade.

Sounds like a tankie to me.

2

tankies usually reserve their autism for political topics rather than word policing for example

Hello Sam. To what do we owe the pleasure?

8

5
TriplePrecision•

Assuming you are now sober, may I ask why you are obsessed with a subreddit with only about 4k subscribers, ie us?

6
ThucydipleaseOPSam Pritchard :soy:•

“Obsession” is a strong word for it. I see a lot of screenshots of really stupid and/or noxious stuff from here on Twitter, and people usually notify me when I get posted about on here. This is my first time actively seeking it out.

2
TriplePrecision•

Putting exactly what your standard for 'noxious' is aside, finding disagreeable opinions on the internet shouldn't be that hard, especially for someone of your sentiments.

Yet I find it hard to believe your give every other site a second thought, let alone so a public ama style thread. So you'll have to forgive me, if I don't believe you when you say 'obsession' is too strong a word.
