I think this has been one of my most frustrating days in a long time.

Teacher Support &/or Advice

Teaching Middle school art. I'm having the students start on colleges. I saw a girl just pouring glue down onto her paper. I call her name, our eyes meet, she's still pouring. I say "Stop stop stop stop, you don't need that much!" She looks at me and says okay. She's still pouring. I tell her to stop again. She says okay again, still pouring. I start to get up and she finally stops.

I don't know what it is about today, but every class has been like this. Middle school children should know better than this.

Full moon. I’m an art teacher too and it was rough. I really believe the full moon thing. I saw it on the way in this morning and said oh crap.

Same here. I was driving toward it this morning and I knew it was going to be a crazy day. Had my second graders sit with heads down for probably 15 minutes because they ran in my room literally screaming.

And my middle schoolers act like that too. I’ve had one student put paint all over his hands three separate times. I even called home about that one. Still, the behavior doesn’t improve 🤷‍♀️

The full moon thing is 100% real. I shoulda guessed it was that time of month—my kids are wack too.

Damn I was really wondering what's been happening the last two days and that might really explain it.

Oh man. I'm so embbarassed I didn't chatch that!

Did I just kill you a little?

I did a double take. OP must work at an early early college academy or something.

I did make fun of a student for doing the opposite mistake for a college application letter I proofread.

To be fair, it may have auto corrected collages to colleges because usually people mess this up the opposite way. Google docs does this and it drives me nuts! 😂

I was wondering what glue had to do with college. I’ve been in spring break too long...

I feel you. Today my pre k students cried for a while, all of them at the same time. I wanted to join them for a second too.

Yep. The school resource officer works traffic at my school before he heads over to the high school and said they have lots of fights and crazy stuff on full moon days.

Full moon. Pre K teacher and I had a five year old girl bite a boy today and then when I tried to talk to her about it she bit her own arm and claimed the boy bit her instead while maintaining eye contact the whole time.

I have realized I need to stop assuming any kid knows how to do anything.

I recently taught my classes how to use scissors. I mean, making long cuts and not snipping, turning the paper not the scissors, etc.

Every time I assume, I make an ass out of u and me. I mean, I make an ass out of myself. I assumed my kids knew value from their old teacher. Nope. Not even 5th graders knew how to shade.

Take a class period. Teach them how to glue using the exact method you want them to use. Have them practice.

I had to tell a 9th grader last week to stop licking his shoe, and another 9th grader student was trying wrap himself in my *limited amount* of tissues claiming to try and be a mummy.

So yes, something is in the air.

I teach middle school too. Today was rough for everyone...just a couple days and the full moon will leave us. Things should return to (mostly) normal. At least we can take solace in the fact spring break is around the corner - we all need a break (staff and students)!

I never believed in the lunar cycle affecting people until I started working with children. Holy hell have my kids been off lately.

People don't think it's real. Then they work in a job where it becomes very apparent that it's real and they are a believer.

Yeah today was definitely a full mom class day. It wasn’t just you.

Elementary music, my kids were actually pretty decent today! No full moon for me this time, so there goes my luck for the rest of the year.

The full moon thing is starting to make sense. I teach middle school special ed and the last two days have been horrible.

Sounds like she was being oppositionally defiant.

My 8th grade art teacher taught us to use a tiny amount of glue along the edges only, then smear it in with our pointer finger.

It really stood out and I've tried to pass it on in every elementary classroom I've ever been in, as a sub and then as a classroom teacher.

Slip it in her back pack for homework.

Yesterday I had to tell a middle school boy to stop petting his friend on the head like a cat.

1
skittles_rainbows•

Was he purring?

2
mominthewild•

Lol, no. He was just sitting there quietly with his hand on his hands on his desk. Idk, maybe it was relaxing but they were supposed to be working on an assignment and not together.

1
skittles_rainbows•

Well I'd get mad because they're not even playing the parts right

1
mominthewild•

If they had played the parts it could have helped them a little bit. I just wanted them to get their work done.

Spring time, full moon and I believe Mercury is still in retrograde. The “cluster fuck”trifecta.

“A dot is enough!” My elementary school art teacher taught me that

PlatomusesOPMiddle School Art, MD•

I still remember "A dot'll do yah." Just because it was so much fun to say.
