What are your favorite activities to do while listening to Audible?

Other than listening on the commute or at the gym - I'm finding myself truly enjoying an audiobook if I'm outside playing Pokemon Go.

I know a few people that listen while playing video games, which I can't seem to do - I just get distracted on the game itself. I guess with Pokemon Go there's just a lot of walking involved to keep me focused.

So I'm curious - besides the regular times one would listen to an audiobook, what are your favorite activities?

I wouldn’t call it “favorite” but I shall only listen to audible when I drive. Now that it’s spring time maybe I’ll listen while mowing the lawn too.

Same here. I drive around 20 hours a week. I love my audiobooks.

Me too! This is what actually got me into audiobooks. I had to do an 8 hour road trip solo, and I thought I may as well give it a shot. Now, it's my favorite part of any long drive.

Same. It made long commutes like that enjoyable as opposed to dreading the long drive.

Playing Civ VI.

Lol! I was building a new village in Minecraft while listening to the Dresden files and now I occasionally have flashbacks of the plot when visiting it >_<

I've tried that, but apparently I suck at Civ VI so bad I need to pay too much attention and realize I missed half an hour of my book...

My Man. Audible and Civ V/VI describe most of my down time for the past few years.

My normaly listening times are and probably my order of preference:

Getting ready for work in the morning

Driving

Cleaning the house

Mowing the lawn

Yup. All of these, plus I usually listen with a sleep timer at bedtime.

Primarily driving. When I'm with my wife, she tends to interrupt with random thoughts and distract me so mostly when I'm alone. Sometimes I'll use headphones on a long drive and she will do the same since we listen to different books. My kids love the kids themed books that are released with audible originals so I've been getting those for 45+min drives.

I also listen a lot when I'm exercising. However, I just got a new watch that can hold music and books (so I don't have to run with my phone) but I don't think Audible can sync to my Garmin yet so I have to buy a book elsewhere or borrow from library or rip MP3s.

I like listening while I walk to and from uni campus. It's a 20 minute walk which is usually long enough for a chapter or two of whatever book I'm on, it's a great way to start the day.

I also find my productivity of menial tasks improves while listening to Audible. Tidying, cleaning, and making food are now enjoyable because I don't really have to focus on them.

I love Audible!!!

I listen to them when I can't sleep, so... lay in bed in the dark with my eyes closed, I guess. Ha.

Favorite? Cooking. But I also do other housework like laundry, dishes, general cleaning along with remodling of the house.

Travelling - by train usually. Something I do daily.

I like Happy Color for iPhone. It’s a great color by number app.

A cross stitch game, where have I been. Surely cross stitch for real is more fun. I dont mean to be thick but just why?

Mowing the lawn. In fact, the first two times I've mowed the lawn this year I didn't listen to anything, but it made me feel nostalgic for the Wheel of Time. The last 2-3 years I spent listening to the Wheel of Time so mowing certain parts of the lawn will take me back to certain parts of the series lol

I know that feeling. I travel a good bit for work and certain areas of the drive make me nostalgic for the book I was listening to during that trip.

I am a knitter, so primarily knitting! But I also like to listen when cooking, cleaning, walking the dogs, doing chores or anything where I’m not going to be speaking with anyone for a while.

So many situations:

  • Driving
  • Relaxing in the bath
  • Walking^*
  • Falling asleep in bed
  • Gardening
  • Cooking
  • Cleaning
  • Painting

Pretty much the only times I'm not listening to the Audible/podcasts is when I am in company or doing something I need to really focus on.

* ^Urban ^only, ^may ^sound ^counter-intuitive ^but ^I'm ^a ^country ^boy ^at ^heart ^so ^when ^I'm ^out ^with ^my ^dogs ^I ^prefer ^to ^listen ^to ^nature.

Running. I trained for several marathons listening to Roy Dotrice narrate A Song of Ice and Fire. I got so used to his voice just putting me “in the zone” for a run that I even ran my fastest 5k while listening to parts of book 3.

Also driving, cleaning the house, gardening, cooking, and walking the dogs. I love how audiobooks magically transform obligations into “me time.”

I do a lot of crafts. Many a stuffed animal and blanket and shawl have been crocheted and knitted throughout hours and hours of audiobooks!

I just bought a house that was neglected for a couple of years, so there's so much yard work to do. Perfect time to cut down my backlog!

Nothing beats cooking dinner or folding laundry while you listen to an audiobook.

3
Rogem002•

I normally listen when I go for a walk, or when I'm laying down before bed.
