I love Renekton, but I hate top lane. As mains, can y'all explain to me why Renekton has never, ever been played in midlane?
If I get filled top I'll happily pick ya boi, but when I'm mid I always second guess myself because I've legit never seen anyone ever during any period of time take him mid consistently, and I wonder why? I don't want to grief my team! The only thing I can think of is that he has really bad matchups mid generally, in which case maybe he can be alright picked into certain champs once enemy shows their pick. Mid seems like a really powerful role for him!

Renekton mid is nothing unheard of, people today still play it if they're filled mid as one trick ponies. So who's played it? Pretty much most popular Renekton one tricks: Romanium, Trollnekton, Panther, RTO, Arthur(Korean Rene OTP). Also I'm pretty certain Faker has played Renekton mid in competitive, if not he has at least played him mid lane a few times in solo queue, main reason being a counter pick to melee mid lane champions. I'm sure there are plenty of vods on youtube where you can find enough inspiration to learn it. But essentially you kind of play it like you're a talon or zed, you go full AD and rush tiamat into ghostblade, with that you have the roaming pressence and wave clear to leave mid, then you have the following choices; take jungle camps / kill enemy jungler / present vision / bait mid laners / kill over extended laners or set up dives. Of course that's just basic mid lane knowledge, but that's what you pretty much do.
So why don't more people play it mid lane? Renekton just simply has too many bad match ups, plus with the lane being a "2v2" lane, in a sense you always have to play around a jungler to get a kill, otherwise if you try to make any kind of play or trade you get all in'd by the enemy jungler who is constantly hovering around your lane in most games. The lane being much shorter does present more issues too, it's a lot harder to run down people and the fact most champions have some kind of dash / blink mid lane it makes it harder to stick onto people and unload your full damage off, for this reason PTA or Electrocute is your best bet for cheesing mid lane and giving you a chance to one shot once you get Tiamat.
