Just missed a CS-80 for $1000

Spent the last few hours on the roller coaster of a lifetime. Found a craigslist ad for a $1000 Yamaha CS-80. Powered up but no audio output. Lined the deal up with the seller, we were going to meet after their work. Turns out, a relative of the seller mentioned it to a friend, who then immediately bought it. Of course, neither of them knew about the deal that was set up. And just like that, the dream slipped right through my fingers.

Let's have a little missed-opportunity pity party. Tell me about the one that got away.

I was once offered a Moog Prodigy by someone going through a severe artistic crisis/depression. I declined because I didn't want to be any part of the regret that they would inevitably feel... and it didn't have a CV input.

I literally just bought a Prodigy for $400, also without CV. Found the best synth tech in my area, and she’s adding inputs as we speak!

I once grabbed a ju-06 for -cheap-, but it had a malfunctioning touch slider.
My intent to was to sequence it externally, have some fun, then fix it and sell it for a large profit...

Well, Upon opening the unit I only made it worse. I had to sell it at a loss and my plan ceased to take form. Maybe a bit of bad karma for not offering the fella more money for it.

Ah well.

I snagged my Juno6 broken too. I played it with a dead voice for years until I finally knew enough to fix it. I will never let it go so I feel for your loss. Sad bloops only

Daaaaamn that sucks. I've never had this happen with a synth but I did miss out on a jcm 900 half stack for 300 dollars.

I would love to even humor having a shot at a CS-80. Ive found a few great deals on recording gear here and there. But my cousin found an ARP String Ensemble at a thrift store for $14.95. Someone had painted it white, and it’s a little scratchy in the pots, but is otherwise in great shape.

There are hardly ever any synths for sale in my area to begin with, but one that I do kind of regret missing out on was a Realistic MG-1 for $150. In hindsight, I didn't really need it anyways but hey, it's still a Moog, and would have been my first. Oh well.

And hey OP, if it makes you feel any better, you could put that $1000 you would have spent into a savings account, and it should accrue enough interest to pay for a Behringer DS-80 by the time that comes to market! :)

I passed on a Jupiter 8 for $2500 because I had just bought a Jupiter 6 for $800 the day prior and was cash poor. This was 7 years ago or so.

ESQ-1 at a pawn shop for like $100. Worked flawlessly. I didn't buy it because I didn't have room to set it up in my bedroom...

My ESQ-1 was 50 pounds from a friend who was moving away. He was going to give it to another friend but they wanted something with speakers built in so I offered to pay 50 quid to a charity of his choosing. Done.

If I ever get rid of it, it will be to someone who really needs it.

Those ESQ's are TANKS. When it fails you can use it as a boat anchor!

Not synth related, I missed on a 1967 epiphone riviera.

The seller didn't really want to sell it, so he still has it. Even in poor condition, it remains the best guitar I have ever laid my hands on.

In about 1946 my grandpa refused to swap his plywood jazz guitar for a Gibson. We still have the plywood guitar. It's great, but worth nothing.

I was notified by my used market app that someone had posted a Digitone for 3000 NOK, about 269£. I quickly messaged the seller only three minutes after he posted it and waited in anticipation the next 15 minutes, to no avail. I checked the post again and it turns out he had sold it already, and the guy didn't even take the time to inform me had sold it. I am still salty about it.

How do you get instant gumtree notifications? Mine only seems to send me a daily summary

Ah, I don't use gumtree. I am from Norway not UK, I just like converting to pounds, should have clarified that!

An OB-Xa came up for sale about 6 weeks ago for $2,000 OBO. Funny thing is it had been for sale for 20 days or so. And for whatever reason, I never saw it. "Must sell - family emergency". Someone got it right before I did. Oh well. There will be more.

Ouch! What an adventure. I once missed an eBay auction for a drum machine I wanted that should cost around $2-3000 USD. An auction went up Buy It Now for $35.00, the same price as the rest of the auctions currently up for that item -- except the other auctions were for screen replacements, not the actual unit. I looked at the seller profile and they were a bulk-buy company with thousands of auctions, mostly office equipment. They had no idea what they had and just tried to list it fast for whatever price they thought they saw on other auctions.

Missed a Juno 60 that actually WORKED for 350 bucks!
