I wish we got back individual skills like Leeches and Exalted detriment

[Discussion]

... instead of this Esuna communism all over again. Also Shroud of Saints and Luminiferous Aether. And do the same thing for other classes as well now that they have basically given up on role actions. Those animations already exist, I would love to get back the class flavors.

There was no reason to make those Role Actions in SB in the first place. Raise/Resurrection/Ascend do the exact same thing with the exact same MP cost, and yet they maintained their unique names and animations. So yeah, bring back the individuality.

Summoner has shared raise, that makes it harder. But idk, I don't really miss trying to remember what it's called on another job. Animations could've stayed

They've had shared raise since day one (although there's used to not work in combat, that was a healer-specific trait) and it's not impacted it being different to the WHM and AST versions. The unique Esunas are probably still in the game files too, I bet anyone who hasn't logged on since HW will have Exalted Detriment (greyed out) on their bars, the same way most of you have things like Keen Flurry and Quelling Strikes on your job stone-less classes if you go take a look :)

I still have my cleric stance on whm lol.

And that's my point? So that's why raise can't be role action unlike esuna.

Animations would be nice for flavor, but having just one name is better for teaching new players. If you're in a dungeon with a newbie healer running out of MP, it's easier to just say "use Lucid Dreaming" than to try to remember what the name of their job's skill is.

I can see the point, but at the same time overpower/unleash/flash exists and we have had no issue so far trying to help newbie tanks who have issues with aggro so. Maybe shorter and easier to remember names but still different would be a good compromise.

Technically that’s different since all those tank skills do something different from each other

3
preproseOP:brd:•

Sure but those are still the skills you will be telling tanks to use for aggro, which was their counter argument for having different name for a skill with same purpose. I would love if the healer skill could have more differences then just name and animation, but since we dont even have those asking for different effects too might be too much.

V1et_pr1d3•

Right but they’re still functionally different so there’s a reason for them to have different names. They may be used for “enmity generation” but one is a damaging cone, one is a damaging PBAoE, and one is an enmity PBAoE that does no damage. They’re still different.

If they do the exact same thing then it’s just unnecessary to have them named differently. I agree it’s not overall too big an issue, but the tank abilities are definitely a different case than the Esuna abilities. The Raise abilities are more like what you’re talking about, not the tank abilities

Ascend/Ressurection/Raise, Cure/Physick/Benefic, and others, they're all the same skill with different names (granted, some of the heals have unique procs, but they are identical mechanically). That argument doesn't really work all that well. Besides, it was like that in HW and I never, ever saw anyone get "confused". If people weren't using their Esuna, it's because they weren't good players, the same amount of people still fail to use it now even when we have one version.

I think they changed esuna in particular because if you played as scholar you’d get leeches only and level 40 and if you played Brayflox’s Longstop as a scholar at that time you probably remember how nightmarish was that to heal away your poisoned party members

4
preproseOP:brd:•

Yeah and that's something they maybe could change by giving you the skill at an earlier level, though then there is the issue of being an arcanist before hitting lv 30. Back to blaming spaghetti code I guess.

3
msfakefurHealer•

I guess that’s their turn around was making esuna a role action, rather than a unique skill as Res/Asc/Raise

SovisMeru Maru (Balmung)•

They swapped Sword and Shield Oath learning levels for pallies for Stormblood. Could probably have just swapped Leeches earlier too, but it was too late at that point with role actions I guess.

The one place where Selene almost essential to take over Eos, for that final fight.

SolrokrWAR•

I'd like to see those abilities with just a little bit of job flavor as well. Not a lot, just a bit, but something that can further diversify the strengths and weaknesses of the respective classes.

Nanopizza:mch:•

As much as this would be nice, when they played Gunbreaker in the live letter we saw Rampart on their hotbar, which indicates that they won't be adding back the old job-specific ones such as shadowskin and foresight (I know foresight wasn't as good but they could always just change it to the same effect).

1
preproseOP:brd:•

Yeah I know already that's not the case, they just gave up on the role actions and left them as they are, resorting to remove the useless ones that were put arbitrarily just to come up with 10 roles total. It was a stupid idea from the very beginning.

2
Sora_Archer•

Role skill are still kept. Not all but i dont see th gicing the old ones back.

Yes let's arbitrarily call things that do the same thing different names! BRB gonna finish grilling this ground beef sandwich on a bun.

Raise

Ascend

Resurrection

Verraise

SytevPLD•

The issue is that Ressurection and Verraise are not Healer exclusive actions. They certainly could consolidate the Healer actions though.

-2
preproseOP:brd:•

I mean if they really wanted to consolidate, they could have finally given... a ress to BLM! But they are really stingy about that so don't think that's happening. But I would rather they bring back the individuality that already existed.

-2
flingflipplySCH•

Did you think this didn't further prove my point or

-3
preproseOP:brd:•

So when are you going to campaign to get all the gap closers the same name? Or all the raises? Helios and Medica? You can bet that even the tanks stances that are getting their effect consolidated to just enmity gain are gonna retain there names and animations, but sure let's homogenize everything remotely similar.

1
flingflipplySCH•

lololololol yeah I forgot about how much more I felt like a Scholar when I used LEECHES

-2
SeradimaBalmeme•

I mean, you kinda do. Leeches fit in with Physick for a sort of, archaic, pre-modern practice of healing that phased out so many years ago in favor of safer, more viable methods. Which makes sense, considering Scholar is an art that's been long since lost - it wouldn't have evolved past that Era, unlike Black Mages and White Mages surviving into the present day, if only barely. Esuna doesn't have that stipulation, and it makes physick seem weird and out of place when it's the only spell of it's style in the Scholar toolkit.

2
flingflipplySCH•

It's a cleanse button with basically zero animation. Stop kidding yourself.
