Microdisectomy: 3 months post op

So it has been 3 months and things are really starting to look up.

We had a big scare but ever since then things have gone fairly smoothly. Some discomfort is still there, but he is now down to only 800 mg of ibuprofen a day (down from 3200mg when we first got off opiods) and he is getting better every day.

We did end up doing a stem cell procedure to help his back muscles heal. It turns out that he also had a small tear in his meniscus, so that wasn't helping his pain either. He got stem cells for that.

As far as stem cell treatment, we went with a fairly experimental treatment so I can't really say I recommend it just yet. Its also not super affordable and we are lucky enough that his grandparents are able to afford it, so I was a bit hesitant to post about it. But its the truth and that's what I needed when we were looking into shit, so the truth you shall have.

I don't know too much about it all, but our neurosurgeon said that for now stem cell treatment for back pain has had "eh" results with not too much data for back anything up. We have enough data to say it really works for tendons in knees and shoulders, but everything else is so new that we just have no idea if it works. He also said that it won't make it worse, so we went for it.

So far, it seems to be working but hard to tell if its because the SI joint is healing or the stem cells lol

GOOD NEWS

My husband is feeling so fucking good that he is currently in Ireland for a week and a half traveling with him mom and sister. He said he is feeling great, no major pain and happy he feels he can keep up. I made him fly first class since his mom was paying for it because I didn't want him sitting down for such a long flight.

We know re-herniation risk is still there for the next 6 months or so, but so far so good! Still very nervous, but way more hopeful that before the surgery.

If you are considering the surgery and you have done all the steps prior, then we still recommend it. Fucking scary, but he is in Ireland walking around!! Fucking nuts.
