She left to find herself.

All she could find among her own brilliance

Was the shadow it left behind.

She found the scars she left

When others tripped and fell

Just trying to keep up with her.

She found the distance she created

By trudging fast and firm

Along the path she knew was just for her.

She found the heartbreaking strength

To stand on her own and be proud

Of the decisions she finally made for herself.

She had become so used to her own light

She could no longer feel the warmth

That radiates still, even in absence.

In the scars, I find comfort.

The tender precise stitching

She left in the shape of her own loving heart.

In the distance, I find inspiration

That I may find my path yet

And that it may even cross with hers again

In the heartbreaking strength, I find pride

The unique happiness one only finds watching the growth of a loved one

Or seeing somebody start to see their own worth.

In her light, I find hope.

That all these things are possible even for me

And that someday I might shine so bright for someone else.

I find this to be a poem finding many ways to speak to the reader's soul. There's something magical about it: perhaps, from how it begins with She leaving to find herself as any and all of us do and all the things we find in ourselves and of the world around us and leading us to find at the end something different than we expected to find, or were always looking for but never knew how to find it. You definitely have a talent for writing a poem with feeling and effect, and I think that these are the levels of poetry that would take someone with your ability to find great lengths
