Bridal expenses vs Bride gifts

My bridesmaids keep ‘yelling’ at me to stop buying things because “you’re giving us few options for your bridal shower”. I don’t feel like I’ve really bought anything that would typically be a shower gift? What types of things do brides usually get for themselves and what are typical shower gifts?

What specifically caused them to say something?

Yesterday it was the sun hat with Mrs. [newlastname] on it for our honeymoon.

Yeah, I can see one of them wanting to get something like that for you. I would stick to just clothes or things you need (like a new bathing suit, perhaps) until after the shower.

Perhaps they are planning a lingerie shower?

Most showers I have attended are related to setting up the home:linens, appliances, bath towels, small appliances etc.

Are they talking about wedding-related items, like a sash, “bride” shirts or cups, a sign with your and your partner’s name on it, or other things like that? If so, I have rarely seen those given as gifts at showers but I have seen it a couple times at bachelorette parties. I know that Etsy, for example, heavily pushes the idea of giving wedding-themed gifts to a couple but I personally have never done it. However, I have seen some things that I’d like to have (Mr. & Mrs. mugs or wall art with our last name and wedding date) that I’m waiting to order in case I do receive something like that as a gift.

My go to shower gift is a preservation kit from DB, usually go in with one or two other bridesmaids. But other than that all showers I’ve been too the gifts have been like lingerie, pjs, etc. all stuff specifically for bride. But that could be regional/generational.
