Flashback clone wall tribal is okay with me

201
bl8catcher•

Yeah, I thought it was flashback, but we are getting the most random reprints in this one... Clones, walls, ghostly prison,... While some cards have decent value, lots of them don't synergies with flashback at all... Curious how the complete decklist will look.

65
the_first_J•

My guess is that the Jeskai deck is built as a pillowfort deck. Survive until the late game and take over with huge (and copied) flashback spells.

71
Dazered•

IMO clones work really well. They hit the key combo pieces to give you two versions of them. I think wizards are doing walls as a way to protect you as you set up for an overwhelming turn of spells. That's my guess though.

28
Narabedla•

walls and pillowfort make sense, flashback costs are generally quite high, as well as having a bit more expensive commander.

you can't flash shit back if you are dead and all that.

the clone theme seems more random, but i guess it isn't bad, i just wait for the actual pay off spells

[deleted]•

Weren't a lot of the morph cards in the sultai deck on the later end of the spoilers yesterday? So it might be the same pattern. Generic stuff first, then the on theme cards right before the deck list is posted.

DaThrow99•

This card was creeping up in price so I'm happy about this one.

Packrat1010•

I've noticed that's been a theme of a lot of the reprints this year. Nothing shocking, but a lot of welcomed reprints.

19
EdrewV•

I’m a huge fan of this method over the print a bunch of 5 cent commons and dollar rares in and hope for the best that prevailed in all of them except for C16. It’s also really the best we can hope for, as WotC is very unlikely to drop super high value commander cards in a product that has a relatively low price and no randomness of cards.

Uncaffeinated•

Ghostly Prison also desperately needed a reprint.

Now we just need Propaganda.

A surprise to be sure

But, a welcome one

Hello Dex

SpanishMarsupial•

Card was kinda pricy tbh. Plus it’s super sweet. Copying any nonland permanent is really powerful

24
QueenofCoils•

Ditto, hate that I just traded into mine but happy for my friends who bought the precon and dont have a copy because of its price :)

6
SpanishMarsupial•

At least you traded into it and didn’t have to buy it!

3
QueenofCoils•

This is true :)

2
Magidex42•

I once got an Ugin out on turn 3 from cloning my Sol Ring.

(Any nonland permanent)

Thanks edited!

I'm wondering if I buy all 4 precons there will be enough Shapeshifters to make Volrath Shapeshifting Tribal......

31
KunfusedJarrodo•

I was actually about to comment on this. I feel like each deck (which granted we have only seen 1 and a half so far) seems to have pieces of other decks, and that if you buy all 4 precons you could probably extract other decks out of them like the Shapeshifter/steal your stuff type deck, or a Group Hug deck.

11
Kilowog42•

It's not a bad reward for buying all 4, like getting all 4 precons leads to the ability to make 8 decks.

Wouldn't surprise me if it's based around the Weatherlight Commanders.

9
KunfusedJarrodo•

Yeah I kinda like it if that was what they were attempting. I am getting closer and closer to buying all 4 instead of just buying 1 or 2. Depends on how the other decks go.

5
Kilowog42•

I was planning on getting 2 since I'm new and could use the boost to start building decks, but I'm a sucker for the original Weatherlight crew (even kept a foil Gerrard Capashen in mint condition in spite of being a terrible card).

3
Canopenerdude•

You also get 4 Sol rings so there's that

AFAIK, the only card that mechanically cares about shapeshifters is [[Shapesharer]]

2
Kilowog42•

There are cards that ask to choose a creature type, and a tribal deck can take advantage of them.

1
Uncaffeinated•

Yeah, but it's still weird. You might as well play, say Fish tribal at that rate.

Especially since many shapeshifter cards are Clones and thus won't actually have the shapeshifter type on the battlefield.

1
Kilowog42•

True, but being able to copy and then kill the best creature on the board has its perks.

1
Klotternaut•

Nice, I love this card. My favorite clone besides [[Spark Double]]

I think either impersonator or Stunt Double is the best clone spell in a vacuum. Spark Double works best if you have specific combo pieces or value engines you want to clone.

Anyway, glad I can maybe finally get one for my aura deck. Now I just need a [[Copy Enchantment]] reprint.

This deck seems to be getting more value than the morph deck did. Makes sense considering the amount of reprints that spellslinger decks need

9

Morph deck had pretty solid value, but this is getting quite a bit of notable names. Nothing on the level of Seedborn Muse yet though, I think.

11
WenZink•

Well this card is money wise on par with Seedborn Muse, but otherwise the Ral is also a nice inclusion!

4

This is under 7, Seedborn was around 10.

3
WenZink•

My bad, I thought back to when it was around 10 but I see it has dropped

2
oneteacherboi•

Ooooo this one was getting expensive! Love this reprint. Definitely picking up the Jeskai deck.

7
notsureifxml•

Because someone will probably ask: if you copy a morph its only a colorless 2/2. You don’t copy the other side.

7
Neo_WayOP•

Someone did ask =P

2
notsureifxml•

Ha I skimmed must have missed it

6
Maniac_Moxie•

WOW that's a nice reprint! Thing is very useful.

Judges: Clever Impersonator (and clone effects in general) behave badly when copying transform cards, since they don't have a backside to transform into. What happens if I copy a face-down Morph with this card? Is it just the worst vanilla creature of all time?

3
Neo_WayOP•

I'm not a judge, but I do believe so.

Edit: yes, I just confirmed it. All you'll get is a 2/2 vanilla typeless creature that can't be flipped.

6
[deleted]•

Yes. You copy the creature, not the card. The creature is a 2/2 with morph, but Clone can't transform, because its "face" is the morph itself.

2
Godinke•

Interesting that Clever Impersonator, at least here in EU, was going downwards since end of July..

3
XianL•

As if I didn't need more reasons to pick up the Jeskai deck. Dope!

2
willtodd•

fuck yeah! love this card. I've been hoping for a reprint. it's such a cool clone.

now if only we could get a phyrexian metamorph reprint...

A clones deck would have been a super sweet theme.
