Annual plea to not steal the street signs

perhaps a futile plea, but it does seem like more of them have been staying up until later in the week.

They're still pieces of art, and we should not be stealing the art.

toodles! :)

There are other signs (written vertically on PVC posts with reflectors on them, about waist high) for ESD to use. Not sure how long they have existed, but at least 5ish years.

Besides ESD use, they're way better if you are actually trying to figure out where you are. The signs that people steal are really just decorative.

Aaaaaaand people have been known to steal those PVC posts too.... (sigh)

we are well aware of those, however those have been getting stolen too, or decorated, or covered, or blocked in by bikes/etc.....

Yeah people need to not fuck with those. A lot of people don't know that though, so perhaps thar is a more important message than not stealing the ones that it is tradition to steal

it's called a GPS.

they've only been around for decades.

We have them. They're slow. They have also been stolen too. Not all of the ESD/Fire/mental health transport vehicles are enclosed. The mental health/crisis response teams are usually on bicycles as well.

It's a much better idea for people to just, oh, y'know, not steal art.

Ah yes, biking in the outer rings at 4am... 45 degrees, dust blowing, ketamine seeping out of ones pours like eucalyptus at a Russian banya...grinding your dilapidated huffy cranbrook right up to the pylon and extending your neck out like a mongolid ostrich to try and decipher what street you are on with a halfway lit headlamp..

I have a couple friends working at a make your own street sign camp at Rod's ring road @10:00 (it's a circular road) which is roughly 6:30 and Esplanade.... Go check em out they're called Fairy Wood!!! Although I have a feeling that most dirty sign thieves wouldn't want to participate in that sort of thing. Hopefully this helps a bit though, I think it's a super cool idea!

We made a Hal sign with Bender on it last year after our sign was stolen on the first day!

Roughly 6:30 and Esplanade not E, yeah?

I did not know such a camp existed but I am happy it does!

one other polite suggestion:

please do not jump in front of moving emergency vehicles just to yell "slow down!" or something. It's actually a crime in Nevada to do so. The vehicles might be kicking up a little dust, but they aren't going to be traveling at an unsafe speed.

Remember, this is a city of 70,000+ people, vendors, contractors, staff, citizens, etc. Actual real serious medical emergencies can and do happen. Time is of the essence.

If you see a marked emergency vehicle approaching, please kindly give it the right of way! Help move bicycles out of the way. Help move people out of the way.

Help us help you have a great burn!

This image I captured a few years ago says it nicely.

Someone in our neighborhood made really nice replacement signs. They were promptly stolen. Another year, we were camped at the T intersection and adopted the sign post, put lights on it, and some of our own wooden painted signs lower down. Someone just broke the entire pole in half to steal the sign, leaving nasty jagged shards of wood in the dark.

I have one of the nice metal "Reserved for Theme Camps" signs, the one which had been in front of our camp. A couple was tugging at it, and we chased them off. They kept hiding behind the porto bank and crossing the street to try again when they thought we weren't looking. The camp next to mine kept chasing them off the sign in front of their camp too. Finally we just grabbed a step stool and a drill and ah, took them into protective custody. By gum, if someone was going to steal our village signs, it was going to be us, not some random burners.

Someone stole the sign on our corner list year and mooped the hell out of our camp with wood. They also stole our lawn flamingo. Considering lubing up the street poles this year. They shall not steal thy street sign or my lawn dino this year!

Plenty of accidents get called in directly after the Man burns and into the next day, but having the signs missing makes locating and routing longer than it should in an emergency.

I saw a couple guys in a pickup truck standing on the bed to reach the signs. It was the last day of the burn, though.
