Campaigns weren't popular enough, so they switched to directives which happen in the background

I wish all the special captains were available in campaigns though. I think people should be able to get them whenever.

The campaigns work in the background as well, but most players don't seem to bother looking at them or turning them on.

Let's face it, there's always somebody that will complain and good arguments can be found for all scenarios. WG went for: T10 = biggest reward.

Yeah, I think a more valid argument for keeping T10 popular (to which extent the directives influence that can be argued) is that it keeps more experienced players out of the lower tiers which hypothetically makes it easier for the new players just starting out, and from what i can tell they've got a really hard time already with clubbing Hoshos, the T5 MM hurdle, and other things.

Which is a contraction of two things:

Part A: "Participate in the joyful event to earn valuable rewards by sailing through the tasks of four Directives" aka the usual directive-stage based event.

Part B: "and receiving Victory Bonuses. The exact bonuses will depend on the tier of your ship, while the top rewards can be obtained with Tier X ships" aka the usual snowflake-style bonus.

Sounds alarmingly like 'super container just for playing a T10 match' is not gonna happen this year. The mere fact that they're adding some form of win gate is disheartening.

awww, shame i liked the cloudy & moody North, was one of the only fairly dark maps still, probaly for the better tho, some people really had some issues with darker Screens at times.

Wait. So the only thing that they are adding/changing in the current configuration of 0.8.8 is just lighting/audio improvements, ranked sprint, and the anniversary. Kinda underwhelming in my opinion, so I'll be waiting for more information regarding 0.8.8 since I believe they have something else they haven't showed in the developer bulletin/PTS

Yep, you’ve summed up this subreddit perfectly mate. It’s almost like Reddit isn’t actually a good place to understand how the player base as a whole feels about different things within the game or what is actually good for the game; we here just fall on the louder side of an issue and meme it into oblivion with little critical thought and don’t allow any counter arguments. Which make minor and major issues seem like the same and almost all thoughtful criticism gets lost in the outrage. So really nothing different than actual society I guess...

This was my understanding. I'm just curious if they will do something to encourage you to reset your lines during the anniversary because atm I don't really see a reason to re-grind. And it will be three months before another ship is available for the RB reward?
One of the guys in my clan has been saying this all week. He won't reset a thing because he's convinced WG released the research bureau when they did in order to not give away Super Containers while keeping the good will of the players who reset their lines.
It's the most harmless conspiracy theory in the world, and it might even be true!

The 0.8.8 update will be dedicated to the 4 birthday of World of Warships. You can celebrate this day in the new port.
Rewards are given for the first win in the update - mechanics of bonuses for the victory are similar to the Snowflakes and Symbol of France. The most valuable rewards are available for victories on tier X ships.
We understand that those who decided to use ships to get research points may lose some rewards from them. That's why in the 0.8.8 rewards will be given automatically for all ships which have a bonus for victory for research points. If during the event you will research and purchase the ships for which you got your reward automatically, you will be able to get it second time.
Please note that the information in the Development Blog is preliminary.

But in the developer bulletin board article, it states: You can get a bonus for each ship only once during Update 0.8.8.
So excuse my uncertainty until things are written in stone :P
I dont think they will, it's probably a snowflake kind effect
