How was your commute this morning?

Ask Vancouver

Did you take transit or drive?

Did you make it in to work or bail and call it a snow day?

Were you delayed and if so, by how much?

Did you see any wacky shit?

Do we have a location on Roller Girl?

Hitched a ride on the 20 at the SW Marine loop. Trains were packed- some lady gave me shit because I pushed past her backpack to get into the train. She called me rude and I looked away, too tired to explain what I will explain to you now:

"If you board a train at rush hour and proceed to stand exactly in front of a clear space meant for people- while wearing a large backpack- I will push your backpack out of the way ten times out of ten. I don't waste "excuse me's" on people who lack basic understanding of spatial awareness. So thank you, fuck you, bye."

Respect, when i have work at metrotown people always stand in front of the door waiting to get on and refuse to let me out. So I just dont stop walking.

Oh Christ, Metrotown is a nightmare station

Swig of coffee for the fellow backpack pusher.

Walked to the SkyTrain station. Saw it was a shitshow, turned around and called in sick to work.

The skytrain attendants using hockey sticks to beat snow and ice off the platform and skytrain doors at 6am was pretty wacky.

Wacky... I see what you did there

woke up, cleared the driveway, cleared the car, have a subaru with all season m/s but was able to make it down the hill (X-Mode works rather nicely) and got to work on time. Now that im all alone at work i can read reddit in peace all day.

Making it down the hill is the easy part, going back up will be the challenge.

Fellow Subie owner here. AWD and snow tires makes the snow a breeze. Still have to drive carefully, obviously, but I've had no issues so far.

I recently got a subie. Only have all season tires though. I’m curious how it would do in the snow without snow tires, but I was given the option to work from home so decided not to risk it just to satisfy my own curiosity.

My previous Subie had decent all seasons and performed well in the snow as well. It helped that the tires were fresh and not already balding. AWD goes a long way, but I think that most of the time as long as you aren't running summer tires, at controlled speeds you'd be fine. Too many people don't drive to the conditions, imo.

Early 90's Toyota, drove in, still got it but 10 minutes late

Was out last night at 11pm and there was a van in front of me just crawling at a snails pace with hazards on.

Managed to glimpse at his plate through all the snow.

Texas plates.

I was this guy this morning. Georgia plates cuz I've just moved. Got in my 2wd Corolla, crawled about 2km and then turned right back around!

This is totally outside my element lol

Lol well this is kind of abnormal for Vancouver. I have brand new top of the line winters and AWD and still lost traction at a few corners.

If anyone finds a disability bus pass near RCH, I appear to have lost mine when I finally gave up waiting for the train at Sapperton after an hour and a half. By the time I made it home they had closed the station. Hoping to go hunt for it myself when I regain feeling in my toes but by then for all I know a plow will have shoved it under a snow mound... :|

Edit: found by a neighbour!

I normally take the SkyTrain from Surrey but drove instead to Burnaby, due to TransLink’s ineptitude at clearing the snow off the tracks. SkyTrain service today starts at Scott Rd.

I experienced no issues driving, but the same can’t be said for people who are not running winter tires.

This killed me 😂

Called in saying I'm going to wait it out til afternoon to see if they clear the roads near me. So right now just in a weird state of limbo waiting. From what I've seen and heard driving into van is a nightmare.

Just wait yourself back to bed :)

Looked out my window, saw cars rolling down hills and busses stuck. Emailed work, now redditing from bed.

No regrets

Waited for the R5 at Kensignton for 30 mins, but none showed up, so called it a snow day! Roads were unplowed so they 100% got stuck

They were all stuck somewhere between Renfrew and Kootenay Loop this morning. My partner was let off near PNE cause they weren't going anywhere on that hill.

Trudged 20 minutes to Coquitlam Stn, got a text from coworkers, office is closed. Trudged home. At least they caught me before I got on the West Coast Express. Good luck anyone who did make it in today, be safe out there!

I gave myself an hour to get to work when it usually takes 20 minutes. Headed to North Vancouver from East Vancouver. Got over the second narrows fine, then started to climb the hill on Keith Rd and saw three cars stuck- I tried but couldn't get traction with winter tires in a small sedan. So I did a u-turn and went home. On the way home saw many more cars and busses stuck.

Awd car with snow tires. Drove up Boundary to Kingsway, road was covered in snow and really slippery. Headed north west on Kingsway only to see the road is caked in snow and cars were struggling all over. Decided it wasn’t worth the risk with so many people either pulled over with hazards or moving at a crawls pace. Some cars even sliding and their tires spinning. Turned onto Joyce to head back home only to see two of the busses stuck with a police blocking off the street and people taking pictures. Took some neighbourhood back roads/alleys again all caked in snow with more cars stuck. At that point I was starting to regret leaving home in the first place. Eventually made it back home and emailed work explaining the situation. Skytrain and busses aren’t running. Moreover it’s supposed to get even worse by evening. I don’t think it’s worth the risk even if the city clears the roads properly there may be even more to come later today.

Commute was fine for me. I drove from the Burnaby Hospital area to the Lower Lonsdale area in North Vancouver. Unlike Monday, there was no one in front of me who didn't know how to drive in the snow. Took me the usual time as there was little traffic, but I was driving mostly about half my normal, dry weather speed. Roads were not plowed at all. My side street was OK. I had to rock the car back an forth a few times to get it out of the parking spot in front of my house.

Only thing of note I saw was a bus got stuck trying to go up the hill southbound on Boundary just before Canada Way. Another SUV got stuck as well. Both look abandoned as I passed by going the other way. Still see a lot of careless and/or impatient drivers tailgating me as I am going downhill on snow covered roads. I drive slowly and leave 10 seconds between me and the car in front of me in these conditions. I drive extra slowly going downhill on snow covered roads.

Waited an hour for my bus, it came, packed full of people and couldn't take more than one person so I emailed my boss and went home.

Waiting 40 minutes for the 17 isn't all that weird.
