Moving back to oregon from washington, pumping my own gas was the only thing i missed.

Same here. The one thing I miss most is topping off. Plus it's so much faster when you don't have to wait for some attendant to run around from pump to pump.

It would really speed up lines at Costco if everyone could pump their own gas. I never wait in WA, but sometimes it takes 20 min waiting in line down here.

I prefer pumping my own gas. About the only time I don't is when I am really exhausted and it is extremely bad weather.

Election day is in November, so no self serve!

...so we just pay more and get stranded at 4 AM.

You know what I never understood. Why the fuck do gas stations close?

2
huda210•

Well, in places where there's self service they don't, but it doesn't make financial sense to pay somebody to work at 3 am when if you're lucky you'll get two customers an hour.

Hmm, you're right. Yet another reason self-serve is superior.

I have a PacPride card from work and haven't had someone pump my gas for 2.5 years! I must say it is nice. even the part about not paying for gas. oh and I was born here so I was used to them handling my nozzle..

I don't really care either way who puts gas in my car. I feel bad either way using gasoline.

Good lord, I had to get out of my car to enter a PIN for my ATM card the other day at Costco, while some guy operated the pump for me, and I couldn't help but wondering, "WHY THE FUCK DO WE DO THIS?" I'm just assuming it's all a joke at this point and that we keep it for "local flavor," like the Made in Oregon sign.

Especially since one of the reasons cited in the law for this, is the safety of children if parents have to leave the car to pump gas. This is obviously a total failure as most places that I've been to the attendants only take cards, not cash. So how is it supposed to be safer to keep me in the car when you have to go inside the store to pay anyway??

It's a double-edged sword; In North Dakota, when it dropped well bellow 0 in the winter, I would've loved to have somebody else out pumping my gas while I stayed out of the wind and snow. Now that I'm living back in Oregon again, it seems like I'm always waiting for an attendant.

In the long run, it's worth the wait when it gets chilly.

Not where you're from, because I do it for money.

Get a motorcycle/scooter. You'll lever have to wait for someone to pump your gas again...

I was just in California, spent 5 minutes waiting in my car at a gas station before sheepishly walking out to pump my own gas.

I'm guilty of two things whenever I leave the state. First, I end up waiting for about 5 minutes or so at the pump before I realize that no one is going to fill up my tank for me. Second, after I finally do get out of the car, I end up doing the "Oregon stare" while I try to figure out how to operate something as seemingly simple as a gas pump.

It's great and terrible. Great when the weather is bad, terrible when I have to wait so long to get gas. I haven't made up my mind yet whether I like it or not!

Screw pumping gas. I'm above it.
