Pipe noob needs input on new Morgan Bones.

Hi new friends,

Just received my very first new pipe acquisition in the mail and im unsure what to think. Im of the opinion that Chris Morgans Bones line is bad ass and im a big fan of character and an earned patina so I ordered a "random gnarly" direct from his shop. This brings my stable to 4; a corn cob, a homely estate pipe from the local shop, a gifted comoy's as yet unsmoked, and now this new Bones. I say this to impress the idea that i have a very small knowledge base. I want to be clear that i am certainly not complaining about the piece after all i requested a sight unseen random pipe i just want some input to inform future purchases as i was very fond of the pipes ive seen other customers receive and id like to eventually possess similar ones. The question is is this lilliputian pipe particularly slight or does it fall within the normal distribution of some of his offerings? Certainly i know not ordering a random will fix this problem in the future but im just curious about this one. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

I mean, yeah. You paid for random, you got random.

That's known as a nosewarmer / "sport" pipe -- good for clenching while doing outdoor activities, like fishing.

Long pipes are for staying very, very still indoors.

That looks just like the stubby pot I just ordered last week on purpose. I find his stubby pipes are really good for driving because they don't swing wildly when you turn your head.

That's what they call a Nosewarmer.

You can probably send it back if you don't like it and you haven't used it yet: https://www.morganpipes.com/conditions.html

i wouldnt feel right sending it back because i dont think i won the pipe lottery but maybe i did idk.

It's a great looking pipe! Would love to smoke something robust in it with a cup of coffee

Thanks for the input gents. I love the look and its got a cool inclusion on the other side that probably earned it the gnarly moniker. just taken aback by the size but idk wtf im looking at anyway. il give her a dance and it will look nice next to larger bones in the future.

Looking back at the picture i realize they look much bigger than they are. Are any of the bones pipes sizable or all they all smaller than a average pipe?

It very much depends on the shape. I have a fat author that is very much a full sized pipe. Kind of almost a door knocker.
I wish that dimension inclusion was standard. But he's selling essentially factory pipes so I understand that's hard to do. But ballpark at the very least or a thingee for scale would be helpful.

i bet thats a tremendous pipe. thanks for that il continue to keep a eye out for some of his bigger stuff.

I've got a nosewarmer in an anse shape from Bones. It's a nice little pipe.

It’s just a stubby pot.

I've got a bent hangin brandy in a size comparable to yours as well as a random bent dublin that came with a much longer stem. Both work great, different applications. Shorter stems smoke hotter but are easier to maneuver.

i noticed the heat when smoking the stubby. but that is undoubtedly lack of technique as well. smoked it while grilling last night and it seemed perfect for tasks while i am moving around.

When I get around to ordering a Bones, that's the one I want. I love nosewarmers.

Bones is "bones"...you want a better pipe? Well, they're out there. Order exactly what you want.

I personally was very disappointed. But being in Canada I wound up paying a lot for shipping and exchange. That being said I think they are crappy pipes. If you are looking for a small pipe there are far better options. The Vauen minni or the stanwell feather weight are far superior options.

Uh huh, and where did you get the idea I was upset because the pipe wasn’t ornate enough? I do appreciate you repeating my sentiments almost exactly otherwise but what I asked is, is this pipe abnormally small because im new to this. I think you may have jingoistically mischaracterized my post. To reiterate I think these pipes are “bad ass” and I’m looking forward to this pipe “looking nice next to my larger bones pipes in the future.” I should hope I don’t have to be overly political in my speech in the future on the forum but I’m new here.

I’d like to start over please. Hi, I’m Lee and just got into pipe smoking looking forward to discussing it with everyone!

Do you still have this pipe?? If so what do you think of it?? I’ve been looking to pick up one of his short stubby pipes recently!

i do indeed. not sure if i can endorse it fully. its not terrible and but i never find myself reaching for it. the only real hit i have against it is that it burns uneven. this is not an issue i have with any other of my 10 or so pipes including the ones ive made and im no pro. it maybe a symptom of the form factor im not sure. however, i think the aesthetics are great and feel the stem was shaped and finished extremely well. def the best part of the pipe in my opinion. its a good pipe for smoking when youre doing something active where other pipes may get in the way. id say if youre really stoked on it try it out. if there are similar options you also like id suggest you lean towards them.
