So I’ve been making belts out 15oz saddle skirting. Got my last two from Tandy for 150 bucks but wanted to get something nicer because the areas around the tip that require a good deal of deformation(bending) to be put through the buckle would have some aesthetic cracks in the grain. Well I called weaver and asked if they thought I should get Hermann oak for my purposes or would that be overkill and and if so maybe their weaver select. They only suggested the Hermann oak if I were tooling the belts which I’m not and they said their weaver select was beautiful. So I went with that. Well I was a bit underwhelmed when it got here. The Tandy skirting I had been working with was actually cleane

Board on the left is finished with odies oil. Board on the right is unfinished. I much prefer the color and greater contrast of unfinished board but it needs to be able to withstand staining from food oils and moisture. Does anyone know of a finish that would protect but not mute the character of the cedar so much? Ive tried several methods and the only thing to show any improvement was to thin armrseal by half with mineral spirits, apply it very liberally to allow for significant penetration, and then finish sand. However this gums up the paper too much to be practical. Any suggestions?

Hey fellas,

My water stone collection has dwindled as of late and ive been making do with an unknown 400 (marbled white and tan thing), a green brick(naniwa2000), and an original snow white(naniwa8000). The 400 is about toast and now since I must replace it I thought I would ask for advice on fleshing out the gaps in there. Currently I think the edges comes out fine but I necessarily spend a extra time on the brick and the snow white because of the leaps in grit. also, the finish is less than mirror if you care about such things.

What im currently thinking is 3 stones approximately

  • 300-400 grit
  • 800-1000 grit
  • 4000-5000grit

Im not married to those grits just what I personally thought

Hi epoxy best friends,

Im not inexperienced with epoxy. Ive done 10 or so small projects. Serving boards, small tables, trays... So I have a workable knowledge base and a shop set up for these things and Ive been asked to do a night light ala https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33QYAYiRQAI. I was wondering if anyone has ever done one of these or has pointers in general.

Im interested because

  • im looking for a time estimate so I can quote her something. Obv this is relative. just ball parking maybe.
  • if anyone knows of a quality light string to use. i dont want to buy some ali express stuff and have it fail after a week.
  • wondering if there

Hello friends. I started collecting, maintaining, modifying, and then making knives many years ago. Some time after that I was uncovered an old cache of my late grandfathers razors. Because I possessed the know how and the requisite tooling I was eager to restore, in some cases rehandled, polish up the razors and then learn to use them. They have been enough to satisfy my needs so I have never look elsewhere for blades. However, I have a friend that I would like to gift a razor so am asking the community for some suggestions. On r/chefknives and r/knives you commonly here noobs ask what they should buy for an entry level yet capable blade. For instance, I commonly recommend a 10" Victorinox

Hi new friends,

Just received my very first new pipe acquisition in the mail and im unsure what to think. Im of the opinion that Chris Morgans Bones line is bad ass and im a big fan of character and an earned patina so I ordered a "random gnarly" direct from his shop. This brings my stable to 4; a corn cob, a homely estate pipe from the local shop, a gifted comoy's as yet unsmoked, and now this new Bones. I say this to impress the idea that i have a very small knowledge base. I want to be clear that i am certainly not complaining about the piece after all i requested a sight unseen random pipe i just want some input to inform future purchases as i was very fond of the pipes ive seen other c

Just got into pipe smoking and I was having a word with my neighbor about expecting my first noncorncob pipe (a random gnarly Morgan Bones) in the mail when he ran into his house and brought out an unsmoked 1978 Comoy's Christmas pipe inside the box, satin sleeve, and with hand dated guarantee papers which he gifted to me because he was given 2 years ago. Id like to smoke this pipe but first I wanted to make sure I squandering a collectible. I was unable to find sales prices of any like pieces. Looking for any ideas on what this thing could be worth. Any help appreciated.
