I love the paintwork! My only critique would be that your base color is very similar to the skin tones so you lose the model at times.

I actually think this works to their advantage. It gives the models a washed-out, psuedo-black-and-white kind of vibe. Like Sin City or something.

Pyromike16OP•

Someone else compared them to sincity in one of my other posts. It wasn't the initial intent with the scheme but I like it. Thank you.

Pyromike16OP•

I think I see what you're saying. The base is supposed to look like a hornets nest which is why I went with pale colors. It looks better with my tyranids.

4
TheProphaniti•

For me the biggest example was the Abominant. I like the pallete though for them!

3
Pyromike16OP•

I get it. The abominant has less clothes and no shoes so his feet blend in more with the base. I hadn't considered that originally.

Don't sell yourself short! Those are awesome and unique paintjobs!

11
Pyromike16OP•

Thanks, I'm pretty happy with them.

quekwoambojish•

That’s some cool color pop on the biophagus and his dude

Pyromike16OP•

Thanks! I wanted each vial to correspond to a the buff table for abberants but then 3 colors didn't seem like enough so I added more haha. It's also my first real attempt at glass vials.

There are... Other subs?

5
Pyromike16OP•

Not ones that matter!

7
Republiken•

Don't worry. They all will be consumed in the end.

6
Fraustdemon•

you've done a great job with a very straightforward color palette. There's a great horror movie quality with your cult and i really dig that.

5
HyperionSaber•

That's the best looking cult I've ever seen mate. love it.

4
GCRust•

Looking at your Cult just evokes some Eccelisarchy Graveyard world. Some ecological disaster rendered the planet shrouded in endless sand storms coming from dried up oceans. By all rights the world ought to have been abandoned. But too many bones of too many important priests. The Church wouldn't let the people leave. So now they tend to sand choked tombs. Some out of devotion. Some out of duty. And others because the crypts offer a haven. Where the empty sockets of the priestly bones bear witness to devotion of a different kind.

I wish I was this creative when it came to making up lore for my armies.

Good job :). They're very ghoul esque IMO and I love them :).

Casualcryptic•

That's what you get for visiting... other subs.

Nobody else appreciates our transcendent glory.

it's like H.R. Giger and Frank Miller collab'd on a GSC

Dope, loving the bases

These are beautiful! Wow you’re very talented

2
Republiken•

Your dark colour scheme really fits the feel of our faction. Love it

2
wsavory•

What's your process for that skintone?

2
Pyromike16OP•

Base coat of black. Heavy drybrush with zandri dust. Wash with nuln oil. Moderate drybrush with zandri dust again then ushabti bone lightly. Wash with seraphim sepia and then re-highlight the high and flat spots with ushabti bone again.

I do the armor the same way but finish with an edge highlight of screaming skull. Same for the eyes and forehead ridges.

alr0435•

The bases are so good! Very moony, and the patriarch is tops!

OceanLoader4•

I think it’s extreme dry brushing, and the level of contrast it gives kicks ass tbh.

2
Pyromike16OP•

You are 100% correct. A lot of drybrushing and washes in various layers and then a final highlight to smooth out the roughness. Good eye.

2
OceanLoader4•

Gives me hope, because that’s exactly how I’m planning to do mine 😀

Did a batch of nids purely drybrush and washes and they looked a little flat. Looking at these, I think my mistake was being too subtle - these really pop, and I think it’s a combination of deep shadows and stark highlights.

Almost like a medieval woodcut ( Hellboy Mignola , or Darkest Dungeon Bourassa ) which feels nice and eldritch.

Really good job, I’m inspired!

2
Pyromike16OP•

I'm also doing my nids the same way. here's an exocrine in the same color scheme to give you an idea of what's achievable. It's a time consuming method but relatively easy to do.

These are really unique and they look great!

They remind me a bit of artwork by Gerald Brom. He often uses a stark pale/black contrast with shades of brown and rust in his works, and often depicts sort of dirty, deserty, slightly more elegant mad max-esque themes.

Edit: I just noticed your second Kellermorph! Do you have any notes on your process for that guy? He looks way more menacing than the official pose.

2
Pyromike16OP•

Thanks!

The second kelermorph is a kitbash of the jackal alphus and the kelermorph. I wanted a female version so I used the alphus as a jumping off point. The arms are multiple escher gangar arms cut up and reposed to fit the way I needed them to go in. Her head is a mix of the female magus and a face mask from the GSC upgrade sprue.

My ultimate goal was to use as little greenstuff as I could. The only places that I used any are under a few spots on the arms and the backside of her legs to fill in some flat spots where the model would have sat on her bike.

2
Daeval•

Oh wow, that’s quite the model to cut up for a conversion! It sounds like a lot of work but it looks great. Totally worth it, imo!

2
Pyromike16OP•

It was definitely my most involved kitbash. Also pretty expensive haha. She did turn out great though so it was definitely worth the work.

Do you either

A) have a pinterest gallery I can link to?

or

B) mind if I link these pics directly to my GSC gallery?

1
Pyromike16OP•

I don't have pinterest or Instagram. I don't particularly care for either one truthfully.

1
Casualcryptic•

Treat this as a legitimate inquiry rather than an attack, but...

what's wrong with pinterest?
