I noticed it on my car yesterday! It's crazy everyones so revolved around this virus that not many people have even noticed. On the other hand this is quite the time for allergy flare ups.
Seriously. I'm getting my regular seasonal allergy symptoms but they look like Coronavirus symptoms to anyone else 0_0
The Pollening.
tree fuckin season.
Pollen? Good. it means the grey, cold and brown of winter is about gone and we can have soom sunshine and heat and color in our lifes. SAD is close to ending.
Man I don’t understand people here in NC. I hate the heat, and I don’t see how people here can stand it for so long.
I like early Spring in NC, its still nice to be outside. But fuck late spring and summer.
Fall. To me, it's all about the fall. Cold mornings, blue skies, football games, sweatshirts, smell of burning leaves in the air, that seasonal beer ... best three weeks out of the year, lemme' tell you.
three days* FTFY
Please don't burn leaves people.
I feel the same way about the winters here.
I find acclimating to heat and dealing with it to be much less difficult than dealing with the cold weather. Of course i lived in florida for almost 30 years before moving here so i got a bit of practice dealing with it. It annoys me to no end to have to think about which jacket and how many layers i need and to have to put on socks and shoes to go out. Light shirt and shorts and the flip flops and good to go in the heat. Maybe bring a clean shirt incase you sweat throught the first one. easy.
Yes i have liveed in cooler climates than nc so i know how to stay warm. its still a pain in the ass.
Born and raised in FL. I’ll take summer over winter any day of the week.
Raised in FL, moving to Raleigh in May. Looking forward to more cold weather and a bearable April->September.
I’m with you 100%. I grew up in NC but it’s one of the only reasons why I want to leave. I love the cold, and it feels like summers last for 8 months out of the year here!
You get used to it. Still sucks sometimes.
It wasn't even cold or grey this winter.
I’m new to NC, is it me or did it rain a shit ton this winter? It felt like it rained at one point or another every other day.
Ive only been here a few years, and with no research on the subject I would say it felt below average to average for precipitation
Not sure about Raleigh but Greensboro had one of its wettest Februarys on record
Not for a yankee.
Which means this pollen season is going to be rough.
Where do you live? I can’t recall too many days of grey, cold and brown. We have so many pines it’s still pretty green IMO. After being exiled to OH for 8 years I LOVE our winters. Plenty of days of sunshine and this winter I wore about 1/4 of the coats/sweaters that I have. Now summer...ugh our summers here are the worst for me.
Your point of reference is ohio so of course nc is better. I grew up inl ohio (dayton. cincinatti area) . I know how crappy it is.
I am south of town a bit in a nice pretty park like subdivision. its not bad in winter but it sure is not great. a few of my neighbors have nice winter grass in thier yards that is still green. Way betteer than places like ohio, mich, penn, and the northeast but after few winters in great winter weather like central or south fl coastal areas its pretty grey and brown and cool here. I dont hate it here but i sure in the hell dont like the winter here. What someone knows to be normal matters. I know what normal in ohio and florida is and i am sure you are loving here compared to there.
I don't think we can call it a real winter if it only got below 30 a few days. Probably only pulled my winter coat out 3 times this "winter".
short days and leaves down brown grass and temps lower than 60ish. winter.
some sunshine and heat and color in our lives.
Sunshine, heat, and color- just outside our windows as we cower fearfully indoors.
In all seriousness, we need to stay away from other humans, not indoors. Unless you're in a very densely populated area, outdoors is probably fine. The virus doesn't last long in outdoor conditions. As the sun climbs higher in the sky with spring, the UV light gets stronger. Any conditions that would give a redhead a sunburn are death to the virus. At this time of year, at this latitude, that's only midday on a very clear day, but the hours of UV light get longer by the day.
Yep. Thats one of the reasons why we have put library play/reading time and marbles and such for the grandkid on hold and are doing so much more outside playtime like parks and stuff. That and its just nice to be able to be outside for a change.
Just dont tell too many people, The park is not as much fun if all the kids are out of school and so many of them show up at the park on a weekday
Perhaps a side benefit of being ‘strongly—no, really—encouraged to work remotely’.
I'm new to Raleigh. What are we looking at?
Pollen
Well this should be interesting with my bad allergies!
I think the most visible, bright yellow pollen is from the pine trees, and ironically the pollen particles are too large to agitate peoples’ allergies. However, other things that do bother people (ie grasses and other plants) bloom around the same time. So what you see won’t bother you, but there are still things that you can’t see that will.
fun facts! Thank you
RIP
(rest in pollen)
It's a grand time!
Oh you're in for a treat.
lol I saw the clouds of pollen on the internet last year. Not excited to see them this year. Also not excited for my white car.
We have good and bad years. There was one year a while ago where we have pollen but also a drought, so without the rain it just kept adding up. Just driving slowly down a road would stir it up into a cloud. I work at the airport, and when the jets would take off, huge plumes of yellow would billow up. Even for those like me with no allergies to speak of it was terrible. Then the rains finally came, and there were rivers of yellow everywhere. But at least it was out of the air.
I just hope my meds can hold up. I'll be laid up if I don't.
White doesn't show it.
Black on the other hand.
I imagine it might stick a bit. But definitely glad I don't have a black car for a variety of reasons.
A few years back I was driving home at night and legitimately thought there was a huge fire because of the clouds of smoke everywhere. Nope, just pollen.
Oh. That sounds fun.
the path to Pennywise's lair.
The Pollening is coming.
You'll be looking at yellow-green soon
Always wanted to paint my car. Now it happens for free. Just have to remember not to wash it lol
It's corona-pollen. It causes sneezing, runny nose, and coughing.
You beat me by an hour! Snapped this on my way into work this AM.
It’s so frustrating when we finally get weather warm enough to open the windows in the house but don’t want to get pollen all over everything inside.
I'd do a line of this shit if it meant coronavirus curtailing.
As long as it continues to rain every three days, the air should stay fairly clean.
Damn, i can deal with only one apocalypse at a time.
No go please no
The pollening is about to being
I was trying to figure out how this has anything to do with coronavirus. Apparently life goes on still lol I forgot about the pollen
Oh man. I haven’t lived in Raleigh (or even NC) in several years now but seeing this photo just gave me very real visceral dread. Good luck from a Raleigh expat, my countrymen.
The expansion joints in my driveway are full of yellow pollen this morning the little sprinkle of rain we got.. This past week my sinuses have been giving me a fit, draining sinuses, sore throat, runny eyes, ears popping. It's the pollen.
ITS HERE!!! ☠️
A pollen-ocalypse.
FYI you can get knock off flonase on amazon for cheap cheap cheap. Worked great for me last year.
Pollen season + coronavirus hysteria is going to create a lot of paranoia
I just like to remind people Covid19 doesn’t cause sneezing. So it’s just allergies if you are sneezing it up
Luckily for me allergies make me cough! Cue the side eyes
Yes but you can have both COVID19 and allergies at the same time don't forget.
Yes and won’t that be a joy
Ugh I know - could cause complications where it wouldn't otherwise. Be sure to take your allergy meds!!!!
It also doesn't cause runny noses! So that whole post-nasal drip thing? nbd.
But the virus can travel in exhaled saliva droplets. So take those antihistamines and cover yo face!
true, but when i saw my dad yesterday and his breathing was a little strained i definitely got scared. then i remembered it was allergies, but i was terrified for a second there lol. he already has respiratory problems.
Yep, those weeping eyes, that scratchy coating in your throat, that runny nose, that feeling that your head is stuffed full of dust ... that's not coronavirus.
But this is NC so we'll have people running to urgent care to be tested regardless.
Pollenoia
I had to come into the office today to pick up stuff to work from home, and I feel so uncomfortable walking around sniffling. Thankfully not a lot of folks around to side-eye me.
No kidding. It’s like 75/25 whether I have allergies or Covid.
Some lady sneezed in the check out line in Aldi and it startled everyone around.
I went for a jog Tuesday evening. That’s when the pollen hit me, coughing and wheezing. The people that were jogging with me ran faster...
That's coming from the contrails! They're finally using it on us! RUUUUUN!
