Tall'n Skinnies

Anyone with a 3rd gen running pizza cutters? I'm currently running 285/75-16 tires, but I'm looking at maybe stepping back to a 235/85-16 to keep roughly the same diameter, but go narrower and drop some unsprung mass.

I've never run a tire that narrow on my 3rd gen or any other (suv/truck) vehicle that I've owned. I'm just asking for any anecdotal experiences you might have running tall/narrow tires.

I’m running 255/80/17 (33.1x10) on my 3rd gen and I’m very happy with them.

What tire are you running?

Falken wildpeak at3W

That's my current tire. I'm looking at their mt tire as my next tire, I want to maintain the 32/33" size but lose some wheel/tire weight.

The MT only comes on 255/75 or 285/70 or I would have got them. I am hoping when I need new tires again they’ll have the mt in 285/75/17 so I can go 34”. My brother has the Falken mt on his 1999 4runner in 35’s and loves them.

For at least 5 years now I have dreamed of getting 255/85/16. It’s now time to get new tires and I have discovered that size does not exist in an all terrain.

If you don’t daily your runner or you’re okay with dailying an MT, go with that size.

It's definitely an oddball size. my 4runner is my daily, so I'm definitely worried about changes in braking and handling performance with the smaller contact patch.

Drive slower.

Implying a lifted 21 year old vehicle with 250k miles is a fast vehicle

Edit: Alright that was kind of a snarky response. You're correct that driving habita need to adjust to changes in the vehicle. My point is that I was curious as to what I might expect from moving to a tire that has a significantly smaller contact patch, if anyone here can speak to that.
