It sounds like the Brickyard 400 will be the first one with limited capacity allowed
If any track could accommodate social distancing for the crowd it brings in, its Indy.
Look at some of the recent Brickyard 400s. They've been socially distancing for a while
Traditionally watching the Xfinity Brickyard race totally prepared me for what a race with empty stands looked like.
No joke.
To be fair, if you look at the covered areas of the track with shade it almost looks sold out.
Source:have gone to every Brickyard since 2004
They had 25k in 2018. 25k does not look sold out at all no matter the section. The front stretch alone holds over 100k.
Source: Been to the Indy 500 & pole day every year since 2005.
I’d like to one up this opinion, as awesome as it is, with more Road America events on the calendar for possibly being even better off with social distancing (especially with the new crowd “protection shields” being added) :)
"You get a section, and you get a section..."
I hope the Coke Zero 400 includes fan attendance
Florida’s governor is for it
Let's start with Homestead
God I hope full attendance is allowed by Dega 🙌🏼
Thankfully conservatives run that state so they don’t buy into the corona propaganda. It will he open. Kay Ivey’s been trying
We’re almost up to 100k dead in 3 months and you’re still calling it propaganda huh?
Like they say, the numbers don’t lie.
less than the flu has got. You can always flip a stat to make an argument better
See, this is actual propaganda.
The worst flu year this decade had 61k deaths. COVID-19 is at nearly 100k, and that's WITH unprecedented quarantine measures.
So please stop lying.
The highest estimate of deaths from influenza during the 2019-2020 flu season in the US is around 64,000 deaths over 7 months. Don’t need flip any stats, just read em.
Edit: that’s 64,000 deaths out of 39,000,000 cases by the way. The death rate is just a touch higher for COVID-19.
What exactly is propaganda about this virus?
How bad it is for the average person and how contagious it is. In reality, over 99% of healthy people who get it recover. And catching the virus from a surface is very rare. You pretty much have to be coughed on by someone who has it or be living around someone who has it for a prolonged period of time. And the only people who really have to worry about it are those who are old and have other health problems or those with a compromised immune system. But the media and many governors wouldn’t tell you that. Because this is the next thing the democrats are using to try to get Trump out of office. Russian collusion didn’t work and Impeachment didn’t work. This is their next hoax. It’s just not a complete hoax this time but how bad it is and saying Trump’s response has been bad is a hoax.
I wish Trump’s response would’ve just been “bad”.
Stop bloviating for his cult of personality and start listening to the scientists and experts, please.
I like how in the end you call it a hoax then immediately backpedal, then double down with reasoning.
Haha some of you Trump-tards never get old lol
Tell that to the families of 344,000 people.
I don’t see why Texas won’t allow it.
I live 25 miles from TMS and every high school here is hosting a graduation ceremony with 700+ people attending. Most are outdoors, but in small town football stadiums. There is no requirement for masks. People are “recommended” to social distance, but are not required.
If that’s allowed, I see no reason why NASCAR can’t let 20,000 fans or so come out to watch the race and require social distancing and masks. People will be at much less of a risk there than at one of these graduations. Texas is already essentially entirely open again.
I still have hope to be at Kentucky.
I don’t see how Ky can happen. June 29th is the 50 or less phase.
I don’t think 10 Days later will be the 50,000 or more mark.
😁😁😁
This is Reddit. Don’t use emojis.
Edit: except for 🅱️ and maybe 🅾️
If state government allows, I’d imagine fans will be allowed starting with Indy and going on from there.
The way Texas is opening up im surprised that they aren't allowing fans for the Indy race. I bet they'll be one of the first to allow fans back once they get there.
Wherever the first race is that can have fans, I'm going to try my hardest to be there.
Same, unless it’s Indy or a road course. I like to see the whole track.
Even if it's Indy or a road course I'd still go. But that's just me.
well hey, come grab a beer if you’re there. Whenever it is we will be riding from Ga. I talk a big game but I’ll probably head to Indy if they do it there
That'd be dope.
Oh snap, this is great news! My friends and I had planned my bachelor party to be at Richmond this September, so fingers crossed!
Hopefully this year they mean and starting with Indy in July fans can be allowed for the rest of the season.
Indy makes the most sense. Even blocking off every couple of seats you could get a good crowd into that monster of a facility and keep everyone “socially distanced.”
I’m coming to Talladega in the fall whether I’m allowed to or not
Do you wanna break in and sit right by the track
I’ll sit in between the safer barrier if I have to. Nobody will see me there.
Any chance NHMS could have its July race with fans??
NH’s Governor has addressed it a few times in press conferences and it doesn’t look good. They already moved Bike Week which is around the same time to closer to the end of summer. He is really driven by data and by what’s going on in Mass so he hasn’t ruled it out but I honestly wouldn’t get too excited for it.
I live in Mass. Our governor will have us back to normal by 2045 at this rate. Its time for them to put their big boy pants on and help us get back to normal.
Over 6,000 people have died in your state alone. 6,000. Massachusetts is a hot spot.
Ya so?
I really don't see this happening this year, I get that they wanna do anything possible to get fans back in the stands but I just can't see it happening. One asymptomatic infected person in the stands and it just starts from there.
Would be amazing to have fans back to start with Daytona next year if we're able to have a vaccine by then.
I really hope they aren't. Seriously, an outbreak linked to a sports event would pretty much end the season, if not the sport, for whatever league it happens in.
I like Nascar but can be a germ pit. The guy behind me usually spills something on me, nobody uses the sinks in the restroom and your pack like sardines through the entry gates/ trollies.
It’s going to be Indy.
The Brickyard 400 weekend can barely reach 10% nowadays. Most of those fans are spread out across the speedway.
If any track can social distance and allow fans to attend, Indy is the best place to do so.
Also, if it's the first race to have fans again, I can see them selling a few extra tickets as people will drive to see even a sub-par race at that point.
It really depends on the state and county/city the races are in. Local government will ultimately make that decision. Makes me wonder if NASCAR has had talks with governors/mayors already
Sure thing Steve, see ya in February
In 2022 right? Because that's the narrative that's been pushed since this whole thing started.
I’ll let you know when we have a vaccine
Yup that’s right. Keep pushing that lockdown forever mentality. We all know what the end goal of it is anyway
That is literally no ones end goal. No one wants 25% unemployment. No one wants to wear a mask all the time. I just want people to not die. Why is that so hard for you idiots to understand?
So sometime between 2022 and never? Cool 👍🏻
There are 3 in development that will probably enter clinical trials in the fall but sure
Noo thank you. Not until we see a steady decline in cases. Y’all have fun.
I mean, local governments will be the ones actually making this decision.
Yup, the small take away out of it seems that they will require masks and do temp screens just like they do with crew members.
Probably pretty limited attendance then. Even just ordering enough masks and disposable thermometer covers is gonna be hard enough in the middle of a pandemic
Does every American not own a mask already? Maybe it’s NY bias but everyone I know has a mask or a bandana they wear around
Bandana is better then nothing but I think you should have more than that if you’re attending something like a sporting event. As for rather or not everyone has a mask, definitely not. And, obviously no offense intended to your average nascar fan cause I am one, but the NASCAR fan base probably has a higher than average sample of the “I won’t wear a mask because freedom” crowd that don’t own them and wouldn’t wear one that they’re given
People are still refusing to wear them. I have seen friends and family saying that reminders to wear a mask is doing nothing to help people and is just shaming people who choose to exercise their "right" to not wear one.
Remember that where the tracks are located, the population is more likely to be a coronavirus denier, claiming that it's a hoax or that it's not that harmful.
What about the drunk, out in the sun all day fans (typically me)? Wouldn't your temp be higher and thus not allowing you in? Serious question that I don't know the answer to?
So I have some experience with this as someone that has to screen people's temperatures every day. Literally a few minutes in the shade is enough to lower your temperature back to normal.
Thank you
How can I drink a beer through my mask?
Could use a straw?
Wouldn't that mean I was wearing my mask wrong?
