Fun fact: This is an example of alliteration, a poetic device.

I was discussing alliteration with a co-worker the other day. I said that I felt like "a can of smashed assholes." I said it was an alliteration, and he disputed that. Thoughts?

My English teacher would have called it assonance.

assonance

Perfection.

Alliteration is the repetition of the first consonant in a group of words. What you're looking for is assonance (the repetition of vowel sounds).

There are certain trading / operations jobs that cannot be done at home at all due to firewalls, ancient hardware and ancient systems.

That's right, I have several coworkers who are still on the floor working due to ease of communication, systems, etc.

I know some companies are sending in people to pick up belongings and to pack up for those who have leases ending. Might still be fairly empty but just wanted to give a heads up for those not wfh.

Yes. And they need to and the world must move on . Unlike fully paid government workers who have admitted some have done NOTHING since april.

The retail shops and restaurants are still open in concourse?

2
Vegarho•

Some restaurants open. Harvey’s still busy. Shops mostly closed

My mom works on that floor and it’s the second time she’s being quarantined for 14 days because someone positive shows up to work or to deliver a package. So frustrating

2
RandyFordOakridge•

Serious question - can't she get tested instead of quarantining? If she tests negative, wouldn't that indicate she didn't catch it from work?

1
Tdotbrap•

Yeah she did get tested and was negative just in case. But I misunderstood her at first. She was just sent home just in case, not to be quarantined since there was no direct contact with that person.

2
starkasaurusOP•

Which tower is she in? The memo didn't specify the tower.

Tdotbrap•

The BMO one
