Prostrate--I Wept Bitterly by u/Jammer242

For you, in time by u/parrycrowned

----------

i thought i knew what i was getting into.

"i mean, how potent could a little mushroom really be?"

famous last words.

it tasted like straight dirt,

as if taking a mound of mud

and chewing on it like gum.

earthy and dry, it left an aftertaste

that can only be described as nasty.

it kicked in quicker than me and

my friend anticipated, when we

both realized how green the grass was

and how beautiful the sky resonates.

i never took the time out of my day

to look up and be in awe of a baby blue

that's been above me for all my life.

the clouds stood in place, frozen

in time while our sober friend kept driving.

i was amazed about the size of our little rock,

and how small we were when looking at this

divine plan the universe had planned for stars

and systems, tinier than atoms when compared

to the vastness of our galaxy.

but, everyone i had talked to said they experience

the same thing, like some sort of revelation

of our place in this world and the purpose of it all.

these minutes felt like hours

and these hours dragged into days,

stretched and almost ripping at the seams.

we kept looking at the clock at what felt like an hour

and only five minutes have passed.

we had picked up some food and drinks for the drive,

parked in an empty parking lot of our local theater

while banging our heads to Amsterdam.

i had recommended an electronic song

and this is where we peaked.

the beginning had me tweaking, tickling beneath the skin

and right against the bone, as if mechanical centipedes

were wrapping around my frame like prey.

the next song was recommended by a mutual friend,

with a high pitched bass that was inside of my ears

as my ear drums imploded and exploded simultaneously

before coming back together just to do it

over and over and over again.

the feeling was uniquely euphoric and breathtaking,

that the music was able to destroy me while also

making me feel ever so complete.

when we made it back home,

our sober friend had already left

and the other and i talked for what felt

like forever with music in the background,

exploring the other one's tastes in music

and personal opinions.

one of the best conversations i've had.

the next morning, time came back

and hit the same as it always does

and the same songs did not feel

like they did the previous night.

this is the best fucking drug i've taken.

I love the story-telling in this piece! It felt like I was in on this journey with you. I noticed how you included a majority of the senses you experienced in the poem. The strongest aspect about this poem is the imagery.

the beginning had me tweaking, tickling beneath the skin

and right against the bone, as if mechanical centipedes

were wrapping around my frame like prey.

As the reader, it allowed me to envision what kind of movement you were having. The comparison of this movement to mechanical centipedes taking over you made me shudder, which I like, because know I can see and feel those lines.

This really caught my attention as someone with a few trips under my belt. I loved how free flowing it travels from one thought to the next. The part about the grass seeming greener reminded me of my first trip where I sat alone staring at a towel that had become impossibly blue. The most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Beautiful writing.

I really like the way you describe the things you see and feel. I get this really clear picture. I feel like I could draw what you saw because you gave me this perfect mental image. I really liked the whole poem as well.

This is hyper vivid, I pretty much feel like I went on the journey with you! The fourth stanza in particular is really beautiful when talking about the big plans for 'our little rock'. Great imagery, and rides the fine line between poetry and prose that I can get behind!
