In the Cards

Fools rush in to save the day

Wizards broke their wands

All they can do now is pray

Priestess getting higher

Lost control of her habit

There’s smoke and there’s fire

And she’ll ride them to space

Queen’s hopping like a rabbit

She’s still in the race

The emperor’s got no clothes

‘Cause he’s fucking your face

The prophet’s wearing Gucci

Tossing lovers in jail

His chariot’s speeding faster

But his legs are getting frail

The hermit’s on the couch

Watching Fortune on TV

He’s guessing all the letters

J-U-S-T-I-C-E

He’ll hang himself tomorrow

When he runs out of wine

The devil’s got his number

But he hasn’t got mine

Tower’s getting taller

It’s reaching for the stars

The moon is getting lower

The dawn is not too far

Judgment day is looming

But the stocks are still booming

All the islands are drowning

But the news is still clowning

The world’s about to blow

The woods are on fire

I’d say I told you so

But you’d just call me a liar

Thanks so much! I take that as a high compliment. :) I love your additions. I’ve posted a few more over the last couple weeks, and I’m a little new to poetry so any notes are always appreciated!

I enjoyed this, it made me think of Robert Hunter. That being said if haven't you should give the grateful dead a listen and pick up a Bible like book to me titled "Box Of Rain" it won't do you harm and you just might find something in it you like from Roberts heart, soul and mind. Now if you have heard the dead and even read Mr. Hunter or heard how he versed and prosed I feel I hear and see a bit of him coming through your words and it's wonderful cause feels like this for me don't come so easily believe it or not.

Thanks for reading!

I’m actually unfamiliar with both your suggestions, but I’m always looking for new recommendations of cool stuff, so I’ll be sure to check them out!

Is this, like, a modern-day version of We Didn’t Start The Fire? Even if not, I still dig it. It’s got a great rhythm, with lots of random and differing and unique imagery. I couldn’t make sense of any of it until I neared the end; but it’s still written in such a way that I couldn’t help but continue reading. Really well done.

Thanks! Not familiar with the reference- more of a jazzy remix of sacred symbols and contemporary pop. As for, “I couldn’t make sense of any of it until I neared the end,” well, that’s the most 2020 sentiment I’ve heard all year.

We Didn’t Start The Fire is a famous song from 1989 by Billy Joel, and if you Google the lyrics, you’ll find that the song is about all kinds of shit that was going on back in the ‘60s, ‘70s, and ‘80s. Even if you’ve never heard the song, the lyrics alone make for an exceptional poem.

that is awesome poetry. I do not find anything wrong in this poem, mainly cause i do not have much knowledge but overall i loved it.

What really stands out to me is how I see a story when writing this. Just the storytelling through your imagery, it is very nice to read. And even if the subject matter is a bit dark, it is still somewhat upbeat with just the words and rhymes you creat.
