I think it looks great, I always like seeing in-game title screens. Something I wanted to say, have you considered slowing down the rotation of the cubes, to me, they seemed like they were spinning a little too fast and especially when the light its reflecting off them when it hits a certain surface it's quite distracting because it's quite an intense (but small) flash.

The character looks like they are tired and fed up, having the cubes spin much slower might fit that mood better.

But it looks great either way

Thanks! I actually agree, I will slow down the cubes rotation. The light flash does become a little distracting. Thanks for pointing that out!

I came here to say the same thing about cube speed. You can also try less of them - 1 large slow cube would look ominous - but depends what you game is. Consider less spacing between all your text options. Doesn't need to have that much dead space between the type and it also is the same size as your seated character so it reads as a big block in that space. Characters importance gets lost. Excited to see gameplay! Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback! I'll refine the text size and spacing :) cheers!

For sure. What's the game about?

2
ILike_ComputersOP•

It's a stealth game set on a ship called the Specular. The ship is attacked and boarded, our character finds herself alone and she has to find out why these attackers have boarded and what they want with the Specular

Is the loading screen fake (without steaming)?

3
ILike_ComputersOP•

Not sure what you mean by fake loading screen. The level loads in the background while the loading screen is shown.

5
NayamAmarsheHobbyist•

I've seen some games where they just use an overlay and delay to make loading screens, when the game itself loads pretty quick.

1
ILike_ComputersOP•

Ahh okay, not the case here.

Commenting to come back to this later. This looks incredible.

Love it, you got a nice clean functional look that fits the sci-fi genre, at the same time it is attractive, 10 out of 10

Is this the second ever strand type game? Neat menu :)

1

Not a strand type game lol. Cheers!

Did you follow any guides to do the menu ?

I still need to implement a main menu and I do have some ideas on how, but I would like to hear a bit about your approach. Start the game and build the main menu widget I presume ?

1
ILike_ComputersOP•

There is a YouTube tutorial from someone called Two Star games that I thought was helpful. And Yeah this is a normal level and then I just load a main menu widget over it. And then I have an animation set on the plan button so the character stands when play is hit.

Good job. I would work on the timing. It appears to me it takes a lot of time since you hit play game to level selection. Navigating through menus should be fast. No matter how pretty youre trying to do them. Always keep in mind that the general player want ro naviate fast trough menus

1
ILike_ComputersOP•

There is no delay between hitting play and getting to the level selection screen, it just looked like there was because I hovered over the play button for a second before clicking. The player can hit play and select the first level even before the animation of the buttons has completed. I was just being slow to show off the transitions.

2

He's talking about the transitions

1
ILike_ComputersOP•

button

The transitions between the main menu and the level select menu? It takes 0.2 seconds. Maybe it looks longer in the video because there are small animations on the buttons but they can be clicked before the animation finishes. I can't imagine anyone will quit and uninstall the game because of 0.2 seconds haha

1

It depends on if they are interacting with the menu a lot or not.

This looks great! I only have a few small suggestions so consider everything else you did spectacular.

  • I would suggest using the space in the top right for your title screen. You might even be able to do something cool like having it slanted at a right angle parallel to the tops of the windows. If you did that you could take it a step farther by sliding it to the right like you do with the text on the left side of the screen when you remove everything.
  • The animation on the UI seems a little slow. I can't tell if it's the frame rate of the recording or the game, but it seems to run sub-60fps. If I'm wrong it may just look that way to me due to the speed at which you move the text which in that case I would suggest speeding it up a little.
  • As u/Sausage-n-gravy pointed out I definitely agree with slowing down the rotation of the cubes. My personal taste would be to have them barely spinning.
  • The breathing animation seems a bit stiff and artificial. You might be able to tune it up by slowing down the animation a touch and/or blending it with another sitting/idle animation.
1
ILike_ComputersOP•

Thank you for the feedback! Much appreciated! I'll look into these! I agree about the breathing animation too, think I will slow that a bit

When this comes out, imma try it out it looks cool, dead space and alien isolation vibes
