Posting the recipe is proper etiquette but there's no mystery here. There's also a lot of room to personalize. I use frozen beans, butter and the microwave, but one could of course use fresh beans and the stove top and dress them with mustard, olive oil, vinegar, shallots, salt and pepper.
As for the potato, I put some sunflower seed oil in a pan on medium high heat, just enough to coat the bottom (You could also use vegetable oil, rapeseed/canola oil, or peanut oil, but avoid olive oil as it has a low smoking point and you need heat)
Then I took one potato and sliced it up thin. I used a paper towel to pat the slices dry so they'd brown nice and wouldn't spit like mad when they hit the oil. And I salted them (Personal pref, you could use bacon salt or garlic salt and dried onion salt or pepper ad infinitum)
You get a lot of slices from one potato so I did them in three batches. Lay the potato slices down in the pan without overlapping them. The first batch will take longer (Like with pancakes) so judge with your eyes and nose. Though try to walk away (make your beans, shred your cheese, heat your gravy) so you don't flip them around too much they have to be on the pan to cook not flipping in the air.
I also used mozzerella but curds are way better, and clubhouse pork gravy mix because I had no desire to roast a loin just for the gravy. You know the clubhouse gravy is done when it explodes in your microwave.
So simple, and yet I just got a food boner.
I'd add a protein
One large potato (299g) contains 7g of protein and 18% of the daily reccomended value of iron :3
7g is a piddly amount.
Sorry, but potatoes are, and forever will be to me, a side dish. I could get 7 grams of protein from a handful of almonds probably but I don't make a meal of it, haha-
Apology accepted, haha-
haha, mind calling off the dogs of r/food? Didn't think suggestions or opinions re: protein and side dishes of all things were worthy of scorn!
Okay , I know you didn't mean it and we forgive you...but where the fuck is the bacon?
Oh shit! I knew I forgot something! God dammit peameal bacon would have been the bees knees!
The Church Of Bacon forgives all! please enlighten me , what is peameal bacon?
Peameal bacon is also sometimes called back bacon. It is cured in brine and typically rolled in cornmeal (maybe historically peameal?) You just slice it up and fry it. It's not in strips like streaky bacon--and it's a bit different but it's very delicious. :D
It's sometimes also called "Canadian Bacon" but in my experience...stuff marketed in the states called this is closer to bologna than it is to peameal bacon....at least in this Canadian's opinion.
Most bacon in Ireland is back bacon http://i.istockimg.com/file_thumbview_approve/1146238/2/istockphoto_1146238_one_rasher_of_raw_uncooked_bacon_isolated_against_white.jpg (streaky is also widely available)
This is peameal. Its potentially as delicious as bacon but both have their environments. Bacon is the summer food. Light and complimentary. Peameal is the winter food. Hearty. A cure for the damp.
Replace that with cheese curds and you got yourself a foodboner.
Needs moar meat.
Mix that up and wrap it in a tortilla and you've got a lunch you can eat while doing other stuff.
Thanks for no rage faces
:0
Um. Potatoes. Ummnnng.
Life would be so much emptier without their solid, warming goodness, no? Does there exist anywhere a sentient creature who is not aware of this deep truth?
Pseudo-poutine.
no cheese curds no poutine ;)
You do what you can with what you've got.
