Please allow it
I don't know how to tell you that you've hurt me,
Without hurting you,
I don't want to cause drama,
That's the last thing that I want to do,
But when you ask me how I'm feeling,
I really hope you understand,
That you can't push me away,
And expect me to take it like a man,
I let you know how I felt,
Because I was happier then,
Then you let my heart melt,
I bet you'll do it again,
So I won't open up as easy,
You'll have to earn that trust,
I thought you earned it before,
But I see that was a bust.
I'm messing up my flow,
Just to capture what you said,
So I can feel a bit more tired,
As I'm sitting in my bed,
I really want to tell you,
Exactly how I feel,
But my mouth says a lot of words,
Even I don't know what's real,
So I'll sit there in silence,
As you tell me about your day,
I'll say I'm doing fine,
To get the problem out of the way.
If ever you told the truth,
Please tell it to me now,
If I showed you this poem,
How much would you allow?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
p.s. this was a quick poem, it's going to be very messy and I understand that.
Oooh I really like ‘how much would you allow’ - feels so powerful, like a slight resentment but also a sadness that your emotions are ‘too much’! I wouldn’t put in so many commas though - break it up a bit :)
Thank you so much! I was going for a lead up to that powerful statement, so I'm glad it worked out well. As for the breaks, I knew that was going to be an issue, I just wanted to get the poem done quickly without stressing over it too much because whenever I do that it becomes too technical and I really wanted to keep the emotion in it more because I stink at conveying emotion. But thank you.
