Just lock everything you want to keep. Anything that isn't locked is trash.

zel_knight•

I sympathize w/ OP on this one, I look at most artifacts and think "maybe, it could god roll the 4th stat" or "maybe, I'll try an HP build someday" so I don't think they earn a lock but..

There are artifacts at first glance I know are good for nothing but fodder and marking those as such would make it more convenient to use them before all the others I'd normally waffle about.

107
haafaOP•

This, exactly.

To me, the lock is "this piece is fantastic and I definitely want to level/use it sometime even if I have no place for it right now."

Unlocked might be good or useful depending on future needs, or if an artifact is substandard (purple, gold with three starter stats, starter flat stats) but might be worth it for an up-and-coming character if it has a good mainstat and fills a set bonus.

And I'd quite like a third pile for "no, this is definitely trash."

Who knew "three piles" was such a controversial idea.

SkyrimForTheDragons:beidou: DR Supremacy :xingqiu:•

Yeah, like Borderlands has both Star, and Trash marks.

17
OVERthaRAINBOW1:beidou:•

I just lock any potentially good artifacts. Any sands with great substats i lock since they may be useful in the future.

9
zel_knight•

Sure, but that doesn't really help me find those two pieces I found a couple days ago with awful subs that I was meaning to fodder before anything else.

Since I never really fodder stuff without a cursory inspection anyway, come to think of I should just lock the garbage to make it easier to find later.. hmm

10
OVERthaRAINBOW1:beidou:•

If it isn't locked, it's garbage. That's what I live by in Genshin. Hasn't failed me yet.

1†
EjunX:venti:Black Hole Simulator•

I lock the ones you describe without a second thought. I know that the +0 artifacts I have are mostly wild gambles. If I get an item that has insane potential, I level it up at least to +1 instantly so I separate it from the rest of the +0s. I get that this is slightly inconvenient, but it works. If you do it this way, you wouldn't need the suggested feature.

1
sylfy•

The problem is, not many artifacts are a “must keep”, but there are many artifacts that are worth keeping. Lock vs unlocked isn’t a sufficiently fine grained distinction for artifact management.

For example, anything that gets 5+ substat rolls into crit/crit dmg, or is on course to rolling that way, I personally consider “must keep”. Anything that can potentially roll double crit subs I consider worth keeping. So in a situation like this, I have a lot that are worth keeping, but not many that are must keep.

Right now, I only lock “must keep” artifacts, but that leaves many that are worth keeping unlocked. Conversely, you could lock everything that is potentially worth keeping, but then you would have a hard time distinguishing which ones are the best.

12
OVERthaRAINBOW1:beidou:•

I lock any potentially good artifacts as well as great ones, and haven't looked back. All the ones that may be good in the future that have great substats, I lock. Anything that isn't locked, I use as enhancement material. Haven't had a problem.

2†
EjunX:venti:Black Hole Simulator•

Not that hard to distinguish, make sure to level the ones with high potential at least to +1 and you can separate them from the sea of +0s. That's what I do at least.

Me looking at 999 artifacts in inventory.

Yeah, give me the junk button and a junk filter to one click upgrade. Its a better solution than having to go through and lock anything that might be good to really good.

I think the point to mark as trash is to auto add 5* from separate pool when upgrading.

Probably the reason I have so many maybes is not enough all-stars....

26
enigma_909•

Jokes aside, I do like this concept a lot; I hate clicking on each one forgetting which ones were bad so I could use them as fodder. With the button, I know and it’ll be much faster

14
FeriaStar•

Yeah i know. It is easy with up to 4 stars, and you know they are the best to get rit off, but it is the 5 stars we want out of sight first, because of our unlucky rolls on them. Out of sight out of mind.

2
TwilightHime•

Would be useful. I don't have any 5* and most of the 4* I have might be junk. I'm not really sure. And then there's tons of 3* which might be junk or might not be.

20% of the time I'm sure because it's like def and def%, 80% I have no clue because I don't know if it's a good combination for another character.

Probably in a month or two I'll be able to start farming 5* so all the 3* will be junk(?) but it's still pretty tedious.

6
enderflight:ganyu:•

Reaching the point where I automatically trashed my 3* was a refreshing moment. But you really need the guaranteed 5* to get to that point.

3
cobraroja•

I'd like to be able to lock (or mark as fodder if it's added) in the rewards screen, I always to have search in the inventory to lock. Edit: Thanks for the award!

6
haafaOP•

It's tedious to go through the artifacts on the leveling screen, since you need extra clicks to remove anything you check and, oops, don't actually want to consume.

I really wish I could go through them in my bags as I get them and mark them off for later when I want to do a batch of artifact levels.

I'm aware of the lock feature, but surely others know the pain of having artifacts that aren't great but you aren't willing to throw because, wait, these substats are trash but do I even have any other spare cryo goblets for Rosaria?

5
lavlights:xiao:•

I tend to lock everything that I think has potential so then it’s very easy to just use everything else as fodder without thinking about it. If you’re not willing to throw it away like you said, you should probably lock it. I don’t really see the harm in that unless you’re locking almost everything? Which might mean you need to be a little more cut throat with your criteria unless you’re cool with that

1
Riersa:ningguang: Ning ning•

I still don't understand your problem, if you think you might need it why not just lock it? You can just unlock it again if you find a better one.

0†
zhukis•

When "eh, average, but it's better than nothing" is treated the same as "best in slot" and you get to the point where you start to need to replace your average artifacts because you got better shit now, it means you need to look through every artifact again and compare them again.

Having a locked group being nigh-perfect artifacts, unlocked group being meh to ok, and a just plain trash group reduces micromanagement by a lot. It also makes it easier to find the artifact you need when you want to reequip a character after changing party comp. Because there's just less shit to sift through(assuming trash automatically goes to the back no matter the setting).

The current system forces you into a "figure out which of these unlocked artifacts is the most useless/if you have only the great artifacts locked" or a "figure out which of the locked artifacts shouldn't be locked anymore/if you lock down everything remotely useful" micromanagement.

Ever since albedo and zongli came out I have been saving aetifacts with substats like hp%/def%critrate/critdamage because I would never know if mihoyo will release characters that scales to those stats. Now I have more than 400 saved artifacts just in case lol. Hoarder here.

Something I haven’t seen mentioned yet: I think we should be able to have different loadouts for artifacts. I want to have one for HP Zhongli, ULT damage and ULT spamming Zhongli, and physical damage Zhongli. Too much work going through all my artifacts and switching them out

5
DipsyDidy•

As useful as this sounds I would still need to inspect most of what i use as fodder and manually sift through them anyway because the artifact inventory is so buggy that i wouldn’t trust the markers / flags. There was a bug some time ago where people were losing the wrong artifacts when enhancing, and the games ‘new’ flag on artifacts is basically useless now as it randomly flags old ones (even already locked) as new...i wouldnt trust any feature to help speed up artifact management basically - best to examine them before feeding.

3
adeptus8888:ganyu:team coco:ganyu:•

yes please mihoyo

3
The_One_Muffin•

I really want a Junk marker as well.

Not sure about anyone else, but I've been using the Lock marker to mark items as junk, as this forces all locked/junk artifacts together at the bottom of the list when you're enhancing an artifact, you just need to unlock each artifact when selecting them.

3
HaydnH:barbara:•

Why not lock the ones you want to keep, then all the unlocked fodder is at the top of the list when enhancing.

2
The_One_Muffin•

Just because it's easier at this stage. If I had started the game locking the useful artifacts then it might be different, but at the moment at any given time I have around 300 artifacts in my inventory that I may or may not use, so instead of me now going through all 300 and locking them (which will be boring and take a while) it's easier whenever I get some new artifacts to go through just them and lock/mark the ones I don't want.

Edit: Just to add that of the 300 artifacts that I keep around, I know that a lot of them aren't great and could just be used as fodder, but they're at least not def% main stat artifacts, so until I get anything better or run out of inventory space, I don't see a reason to junk them, so they lie in the area between getting a Lock marker and being junk

Put it FAR AWAY from the lock please. Otherwise we'll see threads of "I accidentally junked my perfect artifact!"

Honestly, it's not really needed outside of 5 stars or leveled up items though, and I can manually add those. But I wouldn't complain if they added it. I'm sure it would help some people's QOL.

2
seashails•

lock everything you want to keep so you know the rest is junk

1†

Even with that it's still not an efficient way of organising. Giving an other way to organise something quickly is just a good QoL improvement that hurts no one and benefits many people.

6
DevolayS :fischl: Fischl's Loyal Subject [F2P BTW]•

It's somewhat of a workaround, yes, but it creates another problem - you need to lock both great and average items, making it extremely tedious to later find the good ones among all the locked ones... It should be like in borderlands, as someone above said. There were both a star and a trash bin icons on items.

2

Why not just lock the one you want to keep instead?

1†
LokianEule:xingqiu::zhongli:•

Bc sometimes you’re not sure? I wish there were Notes you could add. Then I would know which are “keep for sure, keep for X reason, keep just in case”.

7
OVERthaRAINBOW1:beidou:•

I literally keep any artifact if it has good substats. I have like 5 different hp sands with double crit, er and atk%. I keep them in case there's a hp scaling character in the future. I got like 60+ artifacts that might be good in the future because of it.

1
Riersa:ningguang: Ning ning•

Not sure about what? Locking equipment cost you nothing, if you think you might need it just lock it. You have plenty of artifact inventory, unless you hoard everything you can lock every decent artifact without any problem.

0†
sylfy•

Locking alone is insufficient.

Did you lock an artifact because it’s a +20 BIS endgame artifact that you will never replace?

Did you lock an artifact because it got 4 good subs that you can roll at some point?

Did you lock an artifact because it’s HP% or Def% main stat but with perfect substat rolls so you might want it at some point in future?

Did you lock an artifact because it’s +0/+4 with CR and CD subs, but it also has hp/def so it may be your BIS endgame artifact, or it might be fodder, but you don’t have mora or artifact exp to upgrade right now, or you simply don’t have the time to do it right now?

This is why we need a better artifact management system. You may be happy with a simple lock/unlock system, and that doesn’t need to go away. Others want more options/functionality to help them better organise stuff. Some of us don’t have time to constantly manage artifacts, so a system where we can quickly tag artifacts on the summary screen after each run would be great, then we can sort through the tagged artifacts in our own free time.

6
LokianEule:xingqiu::zhongli:•

Everybody has their own way of organizing. A note system would help me.

4
DevolayS :fischl: Fischl's Loyal Subject [F2P BTW]•

Because then you are creating another problem. You don't want to trash average items, because they may turn out to be good, so you'd need to lock them too. So now you have both great and average items locked - have fun finding these good items among all the locked ones...

2
Nighthawk221•

What if we were able to make them when we receive them?
