Insecure Imposter

I want this barren fucking world

Which is somehow teeming with

And simultaneously devoid of

Emotional expression

To feel

My words.

I want hoards of authors to write

Their own words

About my words

In their own books

About my work.

I want each and every person

To know

Who I am

But to never know

!That I write to stroke my!<

!Incredibly fragile ego;!<

!Cannot comprehend!<

!Iambic pentameter;!<

!And sometimes...!<

!Use RhymeZone.!<

LMAOOOO RhymeZone represent! that site is essential. i used to make fun of my friend for using a rhyming dictionary in high school when i was way too prideful about things, but now i use RhymeZone for almost every poem i write. it’s a tool—just like a thesaurus or dictionary—and totally within the rules of the game.

I actually felt so afraid of admitting my Rhymezone use. I’m glad I got the a-ok from as talented a writer as yourself, picnic! :)

To be honest, I didn’t like it. Not the first time, not the second time. Then I realized why: it’s so freaking honest. To an extend, sociologically, it’s so honest that it’s scary. This is us. Modern society is promoting stardom so massively that it’s broadly acceptable that nowadays, 9 out of 10 young people will dream nothing else but people knowing them... but without really knowing them...

There’s a lot going on there and it can get us going for hours but.. well done. Wish I was as brave as you, more often than what I’m willing to admit. A bit more blood wouldn’t hurt but then again, not necessary. Cheers

I really liked this. Like a lot lol. Personally, I try not to use profanity, because I don’t think I use it well, but how you use it in here really conveys its power. I think this is applicable to, not only those looking for fame, but really anyone; we all want to be accepted and beloved, but everyone also has secrets they don’t want others to know. Also, I think the way you redacted the end is just amazing, probably my favorite part.

Thank you. I appreciate that you liked the redaction, I was worried it’d be a little much. Thank you for the kind words and feedback :)

I really that this feeling, for me it's always been that everlasting tug of war between wanting to not care at all about the public (or if even there is a public) and still pushing myself to find opinions about what I write, to get that validation from someone I respect about my work, and for it to never feel superficial.

Anyways I feel this poem is great! I've always thought that you can alway write, because when there a re no feeling left to exploit you can always explore that void, and it's kinda what I interpret you're doing here, it's the root of the feeling, kid of even like a concept, I really liked your poem, great job dude!

From the indubitable authority of Wikipedia:

Impostor syndrome (also known as impostor phenomenon, impostorism, fraud syndrome or the impostor experience) is a psychological pattern in which an individual doubts their skills, talents or accomplishments and has a persistent internalized fear of being exposed as a "fraud".[1] Despite external evidence of their competence, those experiencing this phenomenon remain convinced that they are frauds, and do not deserve all they have achieved. Individuals with impostorism incorrectly attribute their success to luck, or interpret it as a result of deceiving others into thinking they are more intelligent than they perceive themselves to be.[2] While early research focused on the prevalence among high-achieving women, impostor syndrome has been recognized to affect both men and women equally.

Share that because of the title and some of the content, but overall I love the raw vulnerability here. You open about your desire to start a two front war with total world conquest as the goal, and you open up about the ways that you are not the poetic Superman of Jerry Seinfeld's imagination.

It's funny, in part because you're one of the writers here that churn out hit after hit after hit. You almost never share something on this forum that isn't well-received. I envy that, because 75% of what I share are complete duds. lol

Keep channeling those feeling of discomfort into creative new ways to express something real. Love your work, and the way that you are continuing to push yourself to grow!

Discontentment and insecurity exist for a reason.. to not let us be complacent.

I’m starting to think that my title might’ve been a little too on the nose!

I really appreciate the kind words. I personally receive over 75% of your poetry very well, so I’m humbled that you like my work.

Hello readers, welcome to OCpoetry. This subreddit is a writing workshop community -- a place where poets of all skill levels can share, enjoy, and talk about each other's poetry. Every person who's shared, including the OP above, has given some feedback (those are the links in the post) and hopes to receive some in return (from you, the readers).

If you really enjoyed this poem and just want to drop a quick comment, to show some appreciation or give kudos, things like "great job!" or "made me cry", or "loved it" or "so relateable", please do. Everyone loves a compliment. Thanks for taking the time to read and enjoy.

If you want to share your own poem, you'll need to give this writer some detailed feedback. Good feedback explains from your point of view what it was like to read the poem, and then tries to explain how the poem made you feel like that. If you're not sure what that means, check out our feedback guide, or look through the comment sections of any other post here, or click the links to the author's feedback above. If you're not sure whether your comments are feedback, or you have any other questions, please send us a modmail.

I dig this, I dig the censorship because its not only funny but elevates the honesty in the piece.

I’m no square, but I almost always dislike profanity in poetry only because I feel like its cheap... no offense.

I still dig this piece! The execution is excellent:)

This is a wonderful little poem. I really like the atmosphere of emotional desperation that comes through at the beginning, as well as the self-effacing humor at the end. The use of the spoiler feature to suggest a dirty secret is also quite clever; I'm a big fan of formatting tricks like that, working the structure of the text itself into the meaning of the poem. This is a really nice work overall; good job!

The inner thoughts of many a poet - well done friend. There is profound, raw truth here

This is romantic, not in the holding hands and walk along shore sense, but in the idea of the author as an individual genius. This is a modern notion. I feel it can be oppressive, too. That people can feel that pressure to be something to someone else that they don’t even know. That you’re feelings of inadequacy is rooted in ignorance is a somewhat of a curt conclusion. The confession at the end I thought was humorous. RhymeZone. Not getting IP is easily remedied in remedial prosody.

I've tried writing a piece like this too many times. This one is the best one. I appreciate this poem far too much to make me feel good about writing anything. Good job?

But seriously, wonderful poem. I love the way the last stanza flows so well. Not that it has a smooth flow, but that it's a bit messy. It's not bad at all, but it has a sense of what the words portray; it shows a lack of perfection and knowledge. It's just wonderful. I'm saving this poem, and I don't save very many poems. Great job.

You are shouting the anthem we all crave to pen. I enjoy the formatting choice! Can’t wait to read the books about your work stroke stroke ;P lol

HAHDHF The rhyme zone is incredibly relatable. This poem is admirable because while it feels raw and emotional it also feels casual. I really admire authors who can find that balance! Great job.

I love this poem its fast pace like the headless horseman running through the forest looking for his missing head. I think this feeling is something everyone on this subreddit can relate to, wanting others to read our work and validate who we are and how we feel, tell us that we are talented, yet at the same time I think for a lot of us no matter the praise we receive we suffer this insecurity that we are unworthy of love and any piece we write regardless of how it's received is a fluke or a fraud. I think you perfectly captured this feeling in your poem and it really resonates with me

I really like to going out, open, hugging, going back inside to the small, contracted egoistic side. It's two sides, and all sides. What we are. We want to feel connection to others, be understood, but our words fail us each day. Yet they can be very intimate. You really conveyed this to me. Thank you
