Heaven huh? Is that room refrigerated? 🙃

Nothing like a huge stock of unrefrigerated beer that gets ignored and left on hot shelves for months.... mmmm

This is a beer distributor in PA. They not only sell out of their own store but they also deliver trucks to other distributors and grocery stores so you're a bit off base here.

summitsearching•

yeah what

4
DatBowlOP•

I should have gotten more pictures, the entire walls of the store have refrigerated beer with cold single options as well.

Lately I’ve been enjoying more shelf stable styles anyway and I always check can dates so I’m good. A few years ago in my state you could ONLY buy a case at a time unless you went to a bar, so I think we’ve come a long way.

Shangys, emmaus, PA. Right near Allentown

This is in PA?? The worst state in the union to buy a beer? I’m impressed.

21
DatBowlOP•

Our laws have been changing a lot over the past 5 years and stores have really improved. We can even buy beer in grocery stores finally!

15
BassWingerC-137•

That’s great to hear. I got cut off cause my bombers were called “40”s and the clerk could do math anyway and I was limited to 96 ounces or shove shit... wow, what a toilet paper in the USSR way to get beer. (4-5 years ago)

7
PhillyJohn18•

That closed down my favorite watering hole. It was called bottles, packs, and growlers. Great place for craft beer. People stopped going when they could walk to get beer at their corner deli. In the end it was well worth it lol. My deli has a ridiculous amount of beer

3
Drunken_Jarhead•

Happy to hear that. I left Pittsburgh 6 years ago. Those rules were just dumb. There was a place in New Kensington called “House of 1000 beers” that was awesome though. Found all the rare brews I couldn’t find at any of the big beer stores like Canal’s or Total Wine.

3
unrealjoe28•

Bold with PA having some amazing breweries. I will die on this hill. The best state in the union. You dorks wouldn’t exist without us

7
BassWingerC-137•

You’re bringing some luggage to the conversation. It’s been 4 years or so, but I was in the poke a nose for a week, and buying beer in PA is a pain in the ass. Yes, you brew good beer. No one argued against that. But your government run package shops, and no beer at groceries... unless you wait in the hour long line at a deli or smoke crap.... what a pain in the ass. The Dirt Wolf was nary worth it.

Ahh, I see you’ve never tried to buy beer in Utah. I spent way too long browsing the beer shelves at giant eagle the first few times I went to PA. You guys get all the good beer!

2
BassWingerC-137•

This is true, I have not. Never been to Utah. And it’s not too far from me these days.

We have the best bottle shops

Correct!

Is Liberty Street Tavern still open? Admittedly it was in my early beer days, but I found some fun options there when I went on a business trip.

Monte237•

This beer store is 15min from my house. I jumped when I saw it! Its pretty good however there are some things to note about this store and stores like it. Number 1, you need to check the canning dates. A store that big has so much beer that some stuff gets neglected and forgotten. Number 2,YOU WILL BE INTIMIDATED! Even if you are a total beer snob you can still spend 2 hours roaming in a store like this and feel like you don't have what you need or even got to carefully consider 80% of all the beers in the store. Lastly the staff is not very helpful or overly kind.

19
Tyler1986•

I spend so much time time when I got to bottle shops, hell even at total wine. I like to look at everything, even a quick trip for 1 or 2 things is going to be minimum 20 minutes, and that's really pushing the pace.

11
joiey555•

I work at a liquor store and im still the same way. It usually takes half my shift to figure out what I want.

7
MathDeacon•

Maybe the way to tackle that store is to start with just a few letters of alphabet. Then on next trip move on to the next few letters and so forth

6
DatBowlOP•

The selection really is overwhelming. I used to work at Exton Beverage which also has a great selection, but not the size of Shangy’s. I spent probably 30-45 minutes just in the single bottle room and couldn’t move on to keep looking after that. I always check canning dates for IPAs but usually buy more shelf stable beers. I’m now a sales rep so the staff might have been more friendly with me, but no where near Exton Bev.

Shangys emmaus PA.

13
DatBowlOP•

Correct!

3
umakemyheadhurt•

Looks like just a display of shitty wine to me.

But seriously I know Shangys although haven’t been there since the remodel.

12
DatBowlOP•

How was it before the remodel? I’ve been to a lot of beer stores in Pa and Shangy’s dwarves all the others.

2
umakemyheadhurt•

Concrete floors and cinder block walls, and lots of cases stacked in neat piles.

As I understand it, Shangy’s is the craft beer wholesale distributor for most of eastern PA, so it makes sense they have great selection. Wait until November, they always do an amazing day of barrel aged stouts for Black Friday.

this place has been in the area for years, place is constantly packed. They just recently upgraded to this. Already had a pretty big regular base, now people are traveling to shop there.

frickensweet•

Not to mention they are one of the biggest distributors on the eastern side of PA. There are a lot of beer distributors but Shangy's constantly has one of the best selections.

2
unrealjoe28•

They’re near a decently sized city and are also a wholesaler in a good portion of central and eastern PA. They usually do a good job moving product

5
legendairyharry•

Didnt know this place existed but found out i live 2 hrs from here. Will be making a pilgrimage in the next few weeks!

8
DatBowlOP•

I think it’s totally worth the visit. I spent almost an hour in the single bottle room and the rest was just so overwhelming. They also have ~40 beers on tap for crowler/growler take out.

3
unrealjoe28•

Hey I would know shangys anywhere!

4
XODECEO•

Shangys!??!?

3
DatBowlOP•

Correct!

1
Howmanybutts•

I pass this place every day on my commute (pre-covid). It was my first beer place and I dread ever moving too far a way, I've been spoiled.

3
rbahpierce•

That really is beer heaven, wow

3
darklordskarn•

My drunk ass thought that center display was all Cantillon before I zoomed in 😭

3
DatBowlOP•

Haha, Pa is weird where beer and wine have to be sold in separate stores, for the most part. The wines in the picture are some weird malt beverage that tasted like wine but slightly lower abv.

3
DefinitelyNotBacon•

God bless this place !

3
metalobira•

And here I am over in Sweden with only the government monopoly stores available

jealous face

3
bmburton13•

I live in Central Ohio and have a handful of these types of beer stores. I love it. Luckily they all have very diverse selections. I usually rotate between two of them every other week.

3
Xrayfunkydude•

Not sure i feel good about none of it being refrigerated ☹️

2
DerMetJungen•

Eyy, I even see my favorite beer.

2
blompblomp•

That's a serious selection of Hannssens on the bottom left. Surprised to see it that far away.

I would love to visit this place... my wallet and my liver... not so much
