[Spider-Man] If each different medium, Spider-Man PS4, Raimiverse, MCU, 616 comics, Spider-Ham etc. is a different "universe" with it's own Spider-Man, does that mean that somewhere there's an Atariverse Spider-Man who is a few un-detailed red blocks?

Is there a Spider-Man universe where he is just a pixelated form made of several red blocks?

Would this Spider-Man even be able to exist if summoned to 616 for some kind of Spider-verse event?

Edit: Follow up question, if each medium is technically a different universe, does that mean that the PS4 Spider-Man who shows up in comic spiderverse is not the same as the PS4 Spider-Man?

Yes there definitely is. The Spiderverse is vast - it includes not just the movies or the comics or cartoons, but also comic strips and even old Hostess Fruit Pie advertisements where Mearvel superheroes and villains fought over the snacks.

Would this Spider-Man even be able to exist if summoned to 616 for some kind of Spider-verse event?

Yes, video game characters like PS4 Spider-Man and Marvel Vs. Capcom Spider-Man have appeared in Spider-Verse.

Follow up question, if each medium is technically a different universe, does that mean that the PS4 Spider-Man who shows up in comic spiderverse is not the same as the PS4 Spider-Man?

No, it's the same Spider-Man. PS4 Spider-Man has tie-in comics that take place in the same universe as the video game. The same universe can be portrayed in multiple mediums.

Does this also apply to LEGO Spider-Man.

And if there's multiple LEGO games, with different voice actors, are these all multiple versions or do we just count the one?

Azalus1•

I am no expert but the logic would follow that depending on the story line of the lego games, there could be one or multiple lego Spiderman(s). The same with the comics, tv shows, movies, and each video game generation iteration. Each time the story is reset then peter et al. are reset and a new spider verse is created.

26
cos_caustic•

If lego spider-man showed up in the 616 universe, would he be lego sized or a man sized minifig? Would lego Peter Parker look something like this?

21
vrsors•

I think it depends. If the Legoverse is similar to Toy Story's universe, where animated toys and human children coexist, then Lego Spider-Man would probably be Lego-sized. If, on the other hand, it's a universe where everything is Lego and there are no humans who play with the Lego, my guess is Spider-Lego would be a human sized minifig. Peter Parker would definitely look exactly like Lego, not like the thing in your second link, though.

Black_Hipster•

The Lego Universe for Spiderman is weird, but safest assumption would probably be that unless if there is a consistent canon, there are multiple Lego universes.

3
Conlannalnoc•

PS4 Peter Parker also had a LITERAL Paperback Book about the events one year before Kingpin’s downfall. It has Echo and a version of Blood-Spider.

Plus, a “Doomed By Canon” Love Interest for Peter because MJ is out of the picture.

We saw Morlun go to the comic strip universe and Spider-Man was limited to the style and physics of that universe. He eventually just left the universe alone because every few panels time rewound for a recap for the next strip to happen. So combined with the fact that Spider-Ham still obeys the laws of physics from his realm I would say that yes, that Spidey looks like some un-detailed red blocks.

68
Baldazar666•

If "Into the Spider-Verse" is any indicator, he should be able to exist in the 616 universe. What that is going to look like or if he is going to obey the laws of physics is a whole separate question.

43
Guroqueen23J. Jonah Jameson•

Spiderpig took the cartoon physics of his universe along with him into Miles's universe, and Spider-Cage took color back to his universe with the rubiks cube. I think it's safe to say that'd he'd probably look and move the same as he does in his atariverse, and whatever world he's in would adjust a little bit to account for that in his immediate vicinity. He'd probably also get stuck running in place and clip through walls occasionally if it would be funny.

It's not being a different medium that makes it a different universe, it's being a different portrayal.

Isn't the whole point of a multiverse being that there is an infinite amount of universes with every possibility explored?

In one multiverse, quite literally, I'm Spider-Man.

the_timps•

An infinite number of universes doesn't mean every possibility.
There are infinite numbers between 2 and 3. But none of them are 7.

You could be you. In every universe. Infinitely.

4
[deleted]•

I don't agree with your position. I think the point of a multiverse is that with an infinite amount of universes, there are an infinite amount of possibilities. What you're referring to is concept fluidity which is a little different. This is the difference where in one universe, the symbol for three is 2 due to that being a possibility. But whatever descriptor they use to describe two items is still going to be two items even if they call it blue.

Does that make sense?

This means that in one universe, Peter Parker was bitten and suffered anaphylactic shock due to a severe allergic reaction and died in the arms of Aunt May as she waited for an ambulance to arrive.

And another universe, I had somehow migrated to Queens and then was bitten by said radioactive spider and developed spider-like abilities including the ability to shoot webs from my wrists. In another universe, I had to actually discover the tech for the web fluid and shooters.

RemusShepherd•

Yes, that's exactly what it means. That's what infinite means.

There are infinite numbers between 2 and 3. But none of them are 7.

Given infinite universes, then in some universe 2.5=7 because math works differently there. Infinite means *every* possibility.

-6
the_timps•

Yes, that's exactly what it means. That's what infinite means.

Infinite means without a bounding end. It just means there is a neverending number of the "thing". Nothing about infinite means "every possibility".

If you had an infinite number of 1 peg lego blocks, then you have an infinite number of ways to order the stack. But as each block only connects top and bottom, it will always be a stack.

8
RemusShepherd•

The concept of a multiverse comes from the Many-Worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, in which every quantum event has every possible outcome in separate universes. Literally, anything that can happen, does happen, down to the subatomic level.

> If you had an infinite number of 1 peg lego blocks, then you have an infinite number of ways to order the stack. But as each block only connects top and bottom, it will always be a stack.

Your examples are assuming rules, such as each block only has a connector on its top and bottom. Given infinite universes, there are universes where the rules change. Maybe lego blocks have connectors on their sides. Maybe they're U-shaped so you can't stack them at all. Maybe the universe has wormholes so you can connect the top to the bottom and your stack becomes a circle with no curves. Anything can happen given infinite universes.

Marvel's "list of worlds outside of mainline earth" is big- their multiverse contains a theoretically infinite number of worlds; with every new decision, time travel accident etc. creating a new reality. IIRC, literally every appearance of any marvel character in anything is cannon to the broader multiverse- the Japanese live-action spider-man, every single spider-man cartoon (and all of the parallel timelines those created), and as other redditors have mentioned, even spider-mans who only appeared to do product placement for hostess products or in newspaper strips are all canon to marvel. Every game, every spin-off product, the MCU (earth 199999)... it's all out there.

it actually gets weirder, btw- Even our earth, earth 1218, is canonically a thing that exists in marvel comics, although jumping there from earth 616 has been demonstrated to be somewhere between difficult and impossible... in fact, three parallel realities based on earth 1218 also exist in marvel comics, because anything that factually exists on those earths but not ours would cause another layer of divergence.

It's so big, in fact, that they're also located in something known as an omniverse- a really big, meta-multiverse with lots and lots of multiverses in it. DC comics continuity canonically exists according to Marvel, just far enough from their reality that bridging the gap is usually only doable when like, A new god/The Grandmaster/Random Space Brothers/Krona wants to fuck with inhabitants of either earth.

or... TL;DR the marvel multiverse is wild.

10
brownhues•

Pretty sure they only knew about 2 universes up to the 3rd season where they show parallel Bender lording his cowboy hat over regular bender. Then in the 4th season the Professor creates the parallel universe box machine and they explore a shit ton in that episode. Then there's Yivo's dimension.

7
Cyno01•

No, Futurama was a multiverse too, remember there were lots of boxes.

I’m kind of annoyed that Trek abandoned the single mirror universe for a generic multiverse concept, it was unique and predated actual multiverse theory.

7
dinerkinetic•

Actually, multiverse theory predates star trek, electricity, and television- the ancient greeks were thinking about it (wikipedia-shaped source) and as I understand it (I'm not expert), an infinite number of varied worlds is also a component of Buddhist philosophy and cosmology. That being said, I think trek might've been what made the idea of other universes a mainstream cultural topic? I'm not sure though, I wasn't alive when it came out.

2
Conlannalnoc•

Star Trek’s Mirror Universe is separate from their main multi-verse as shown by “Enterprise” altered opening for their Mirror Universe episodes. Totally different Past from the Main Universe (and Reality).

2
Chozly•

It has been presented that there is a multiverse at large in star trek, and the mirror universe is a universe in that Multiverse. While giving little actual specific information Discovery suggests that universes vary in "distance" from each other and move gradually nearer or farther. And this can make visiting an alien universe impossible (due to farness) or unstable and ill-fated for long term visits (super "close" but moving away)

I think the pixlated look would really only show us how we see him, rather than what he sees. It's probably an approximation to a normal world.

8
zoro4661Dances with Xenomorphs•

rather than what he sees

Though it could be argued that that's actually how it is - since we see that the versions of Spider-Ham, Spider-Man Noir, Peni Parker and SP//dr seen in Enter the Spider-Verse all take the effects and physics from their own universe with them.

Spider-Ham has his cartoon effects, Peni and SP//dr have their anime-ish stuff, Spider-Man Noir is black and white with the wind always blowing, etc..

It's also worth noting that Peni and Spider-Ham appear basically 2D when compared to the rest of the cast - so there's certainly a possibility of Atari Spider-Man just being a bunch of 2D sprites. Similar to Mr. Game and Watch, maybe.

5
chloe-and-timmy•

This is true, but there isnt really any evidence that every universe works the same way when interacting with every other universe. Even using Spiderverse, if they wanted MCU Spidey in the next movie he'd most likely be animated rather than be a live action character green screened into the film. In fact B Parker basically was them just putting Raimi Spiderman in the movies and that's what they did.

4
zoro4661Dances with Xenomorphs•

Oh, absolutely! As I said - "it could be argued".

Obviously the comic and live action characters are in the style of the universe rather than their own (Peter B. Parker was neither a slide-show nor a live action actor, and Japanese Spider-Man wasn't just a bunch of photos in the comics). I'm not saying that every character will always be in the style they most often appear in.

What I'm saying is more that both could be possible, as we've seen both happen.

With Into the Spiderverse we saw 2099 Spider-Man go into the old 2D show. Then yes there an Atariverse Spider-Man.

4
Thiknutz•

as others have already stated in relation to your follow-up question, yes, it is the same spider-man, and a universe can be portrayed through different mediums. in (one of) the spider-verse events, miles morales joined up with the web warriors from the ultimate spider-man cartoon and the old japanese spider-man from the 60s show. both two different universes, taking huge steps out of their original medium.

I dunno about the Spider-pixels, but Spider-man PS4 is a different universe to the "main" Spider-Man.

"Main" is Universe-616.

"PS4" is Universe-1048.

Main differences include a certain characters death, and that Doc Ock as a villain didn't exist until the game.

1
vrsors•

Is there a Spider-Man universe where he is just a pixelated form made of several red blocks?

Yes.

Would this Spider-Man even be able to exist if summoned to 616 for some kind of Spider-verse event?

Also, yes.

My guess is that his world is 2D, so any Spider-Man going there would only be able to move in two dimensions, but he would be able to move in three in other universes. Kinda like how Minecraft people are all pixelated, but still exist in a 3D universe.

Edit: Follow up question, if each medium is technically a different universe, does that mean that the PS4 Spider-Man who shows up in comic spiderverse is not the same as the PS4 Spider-Man?

I think the franchise, and not the medium, is what differentiates universes. So, not all videogame Spider-Man are the same, but every tie-in comic that is canon to PS4's Spider-Man is part of that universe.
