I've no background in epidemiology. But I published a book with a history—including a timeline—of COVID-19 last September. Florian is correct inasmuch as (even separate from the science) the timeline argues against a lab leak. But hey, Nate Silver stayed at a Holiday Inn, so...

One: Journocels deserve to be Uyghur'd.

Two: he published his book in September, so basically in the middle of the pandemic. How r-slurred is that?!

Three: what an r-slurred take. He tries to dunk on that guy by acknowledging he has no clue what he's talking about either? Fucking journos... and how is the timeline even implicating any side of the discussion?

Didn't Cuomo write a book on his expert leadership fighting covid before it even touched our shores?

He got nominated for an Emmy when it was still ravaging New York and he was bungling everything in sight. And then it came out he was a male feminist and people then felt it was ok to say he did a shit fucking job

It was more people felt it was okay to acknowledge the male feminist accusations after it was revealed that his administration had falsified the number of nursing home deaths.

But that’s the thing, it had been known since like day 1 that they had fucked up massively but they had been hiding it. You just got ignored or called a troll if you tried to bring it up. Not to mention there was the whole thing where trump issued the flight bAn or something around the Chinese New Year and Nys leader of the department of health or something said covid is fake and go out and celebrate in the streets, similar to Pelosi in San Fran

He didn’t write it, he had assistants on state payroll write it, he might actually get 🍑 for it.

He published it when people cared enough about covid to buy a book about it. Kinda smart for bird app user.

“I have spoken to experts who say it’s 50”

“Yeah well I’m an expert and I say it’s 1”

Okay so experts disagree congrats on saying nothing. The dumbass you just owned might end up deserving to take your job.

Nate Silver may be an angry gay nerd, but I absolutely love him for how mad he makes people (including many on this sub).

I just love the guy for not falling victim to Checkmarkism yet

I've become more and more convinced over the years that modern statistics has a fundamental flaw that makes the entire field unreliable and prone to breaking. There's some inherent bias somewhere that poisons it all, and I genuinely think it's the statisticians themselves.

Like all things on the internet, people who know nothing about statistics pretend to know everything

This whole thing has been embarrassing. Major mask-off moment to see that all these 538-adjacent checkmarks fail to know what Bayesian statistics are and are almost as innumerate as the rightoids they dunk on.

God damn who coded this bot after spending one day learning python on codecademy

Automoderator is provided by reddit. It used to be the former admin Deimorz's project but got integrated into reddit officially at some point. It used some syntax I never bothered to learn. I'm not sure if it can discriminate between just an r followed by a slash vs a subreddit since it can't detect a link beforehand

The actual automod configuration is YAML but regex is used for sifting through submitted comments.
